Once there was a boy. Well, actually he was not as much as he was made to be. Made a character of a movie-series in germany in the late 1960's called "Die Lümmel von der ersten Bank" (The boors of the first row? Maybe?). His name - Pepe Nietnagel. His mission - To play tricks on his teachers! Then, there was a boy who never had played a single trick on his teachers but liked the sound of Pepe's last name. He decided to borrow it.
This must have been sometime in 1998 when Nietnagel left his beautiful hometown Rheine and set sails to Bonn, where he should spent inspiring hours at university lectures, dozing of to the sounds of new song ideas. The attic of a hundred year old house with a cozy tent-like roof would be shelter for the Walfisch Studio during the next years, witnessing the birth of songs compiled to the album "Irgendwo dazwischen ..." (somewhere in between) released in 2001. At the time of this recording the band consisted of a yamaha apx-4 acoustic guitar, a broken in half yamaha bass and the virtuosic alesis ra-16 drum computer.
Nietnagel went abroad, spent a joyful time, came back, did some things but did not record again until one day in 2004, when Willy Löster, a friend studying sound engineering, offered to do so for him. From hi to low, this time's recording space was the awesome sounding basement of an even older house, the outcome a 5 track ep in japanese language called "Nagareboshi" (shooting star) which accompanied Nietnagel on his two month all japan tour taking him through most parts of this wonderful country in the summer of 2005.
Right now, Nietnagel is based in Tokyo and sometimes strums his guitar around the station of Shimokitazawa. You might stumble across him ...
