About Me

Girly Myspace LayoutsI started singing when I was four years old and always wanted to make a recording. I finally did it in 2003 when I released "Singing Along with the Radio," which reflects my 29-year association as a folk music disc jockey on public radio. This project involved my having the opportunity to sing with many of the people whose music I have come to admire over the years, and singing some of the songs I have loved over the years. It was a joy to work with them.I sang at the coffeehouses in Boston when I was in college in the 1960s. I have done quite a few singing engagements over the years--weddings, baptisms, etc. But I have also had the opportunity to sing at wonderful places such as Mechanics Hall in Worcester, the Mahaiwe Theatre in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and Proctors Theatre in Schenectady. At the Mahaiwe Theatre in August, I had the great privilege of being backed up by the incredible John Sebastian, Artie Traum, and up-and-comer,the amazing Torey Adler (check him out on myspace--check out "Melbourne Hotel," my new personal favorite). In addition to my CD, you can tune into my radio show on Saturday nights from 8-10:30 pm EST (right after "A Prairie Home Companion"). You can listen online as well at www.wamc.org... width="425" height="350" ..

Disappointed with the Red Sox, once again

Well, as I approach my 60th birthday and the end of my 52nd year as a Red Sox fan, I had hoped that I would be selected to be the "governor" of Red Sox Nation.  In 2007, I was a finalist for the ...

2007 Red Sox Championship

My beloved Boston Red Sox have done it again. They have won the World Series--sweeping their National League opponents in four games straight, just like they did in 2004. Now, in 2004, there was a lun...

In Memoriam: Tommy Makem

A big part of my life--both childhood and adult--passed away last night. Tommy Makem was part of the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, "the man behind the sweaters," as they call themselves on their My...

Pushing 60, looking for a new job

I've read about so many people who have worked for corporate America for many years--loyal workers who invested their blood, sweat and tears into the company--only to show up for work one day and be t...

Pardoning Scooter

So the man-who-would-be-king has decided that the conviction of Scooter Libby "has been too hard on his family," so it would be a travesty if the "poor man" had to spend any time in prison.  Poor...

Escalation in Iraq

Tonight I heard the news that the out-of-control occupant of theWhite House wants to send even more troops--20,000 of them--to Iraq.  So at a time when we should be getting out of Iraq, this mani...

Holiday Largesse

Today's Boston Globe carried two stories about people who exhibited their generosity during the holiday season.  One was a millionaire, a highly paid, highly regarded athlete, a man who, as the ...

Fair and balanced?

I watched (actually, I listened to it) "Scarborough Country" tonight on MSNBC, where they discussed the "liberal" media versus Fox News's "fair and balanced" approach to the "news."  Joe Scarboro...

Going overboard for the holidays

Okay, so I admit it.  I went to the mall on so-called "black Friday."  However, I didn't buy much.  I don't plan to give much for Christmas this year except to people who really need th...
