About Me

Matthew Stephan Sonntag was born on june 21, 1987: a great year for the world of music. From birth it seemed that Matthew was to play songs, and eventually influence the world with his. His grandfather, of his mother's side, was a produced country singer-songwriter, who between scotch and aggression had a daughter who found a love for lyric and wit. It was in the clouds that she met a legendary rock n' roll guitarist coined as "screamin stever" and the magic of their time made for a love song...which bred in Matthew. Music was never "forced" on Matthew, but its fair to say that his father's extensive album collection would be the focus of growing , for the boy who became afraid of the screaming women on the dark side of the moon. After some aging, Matthew decided of his own free will to pick up the guitar, and scream as his father had ( not to say that to this day he can rock harder than most). They sat in hours of frustration, with Matthew trying to work out Beatles songs, and Allman Brothers songs, and Zepplin songs, and songs out of league with his undeveloped skill. so for a time Matthew quite teaching his "too small of hands" the art of rock n' roll. This was until the age of thirteen, when fate brought a fellow students mother in class, to play a few songs...she started to play "Now in those fine hills of Dakota there lived a young boy named...", "Rocky Racoona" Matthew yelped out, and his fellow students were blank as to were this knowledge rooted. It came to be that Matthew played a few little licks of Creedance that he had managed to learn, and to his surprise the lime-light shown bright. From that day, present : Matthew worked out those songs in frustration with his father to hold a pick, until one day "it clicked" ( as all things tend to do) and Matthew found himself branching from his Father's influence to other artists, and realizing that he could play many things simply by hearing...never one for reading music though.Another fateful day came when Matthew picked up a pen and decided to write his first song...called "Murder in a midsummer dream" and became aware that his writing had already developed past any number band. So Matthew with a new found instrument,: his voice as out of tune as it might be, began to do "open mics" and Rock Coffee, and such...braving the stage and un-welcoming faces. It was suggested thar Matthew should get "voice lessons" but denied such a terribly grotesque thought of something so "unnatural". SO he kept singing In 2006, Matthew released his first effort, " A Song for Hayes EP" which demonstrated his first lesson in studio life. It consisted of five songs that Matthew felt strong and accessible, and although fresh songs were the focus, Matthew brought "Murder in a midsummer dream" to the forefront as an example of his past.Matthew currently is working on his first full-length album to, hope-fully, be put out sometime this summer, as Matthew is reaching another road crossing-twenty one. And wishes to present such an age of adulthood with his first major accomplishment as an artist, before all the writing is consumed in sex and alcohol. Also Matthew has continued to play songs for an audience, and has found his voice has become strong and available to sing his heart out every show, till the sweet drips off his ___...

Sounds Like: Thoughtful and heartfelt. Bob Dylan with a harsher voice, and not timid to hide lyrics that may lose friends. Songwriting that is based on growing and learning, . Truthful; sentiments about love, politics, vices, and war sometimes a mix of them all... Melodies- that scream of pop and is meant to catch flies in the spider-web of life. Songs that will mean something when left in a notebook when I have decayed in a grave, they will last longer than my body and I hope the spirit in them will remain as a muse for others, be it as a song to fall asleep to or inspiration to challenge the world. Until I pass, note, I write songs for myself and although I hope that the muse will be enjoyed and acknowledged by others, I write these songs as my outlet...just as some play sports or do lines of cocaine off of urinals.
