Monkey Brawl is basically a fucking aging alternative rock band with a heavy melodic punk and hard rock sound. Recently, they've ventured into cow-punk and alternative country. Rather than counter or even soften their knack for writing catchy (but very heavy) punch in the stomach 2:30 minute garage rockers...their foray into alt-country and folk-punk makes them seem to rock that much harder and adds a depth to their material that very few bands can pull off.The band has a solid core of members who've played together for a while now. Matt Guy on Guitar and Bass Guitar, Roly Rigual on Vocals and Guitar, and Tom Drake on Bass Guitar and Guitar. Unfortunately, they have had several Drummers and that has kept them from playing out as much as they would have been able to otherwise. Matt Guy started Monkey Brawl from the burning, smoldering, apocalyptic ashes of the recording project "Geek Technique," he was involved in with his second wife, Jill Stomp. Jill was a great singer and drummer - however - as broken relationships and bands don't mix (well usually don't mix)- Jill moved on and Matt formed Monkey Brawl with Tom Drake and later added Roly and Scott Castonguay on drums. Just like most musicians, Matt, Tom, Roly, and Scott have all played in there share of bands over the years and each brought their own unique style to the group’s music. But it is the ability to play thunderously heavy tunes and with uncompromising punk velocity during one song and then turn out a polished pop/alternative gem during the next song in their set which has always set them apart. They played in local venues to some acclaim in the last couple of years but have recently, due to Matt's moving to Florida for several months, took a much needed hiatus. But, guess the fuck what? Matt Guy's back and everyone in Monkey Brawl is really excited about luring back their old and faithful fans and hopefully adding some new ones. The band recently released two EPs simultaneously: The punk/alternative "Barrel Full of Dischord," and the Alt-Country/Cow-Punk, "Dead Cow & Gravy." The EPs will be available for purchase on the band’s online store soon and offer some great music for those sick and tired of corporate rock and roll. Look for Monkey Brawl in a club near you soon.
