About Me

The Dojo is a collective of MCs, DJs and producers head by the Analog Suspect and Selecta Roswell that pushes the boundaries of modern hip-hop with a signature sound that pays tribute not only to British trip-hop but the underground lyrical poets of the Bay Area, the Def Jux future boom and the outlandish Anticon army in the North. Holding down DJ gigs, residencies & live P.A. performances in the mid-west, this duo is relentless in pushing the teachings of the Dojo not just to the region, but also to the world. http://www.dojosound.comEvery journey has a beginning and the tale of "Dojo" is no different. Born of a drum and bass group called Sundog that went on to complete a full-length album and a single on Terraformat records as well as a number of live shows and a remix for well-known indie band the Blue Ontario. Two of the three producers in that live PA took a hiatus to pursue a pile of down-tempo tracks that became the blueprint of what would become the Dojo. Those two producer/DJs are the Analog Suspect and Selecta Roswell and both are bent on not only making a dent in local Hip-Hop but also putting Denver on the map for underground sounds.http://www.dojosound.comAnalog Suspect is a potent lyricist with the skills to hold down a party mixing records or entrancing listeners with deep lyrics and melodies. She also finds herself at home behind the mixing board or computer ensuring a solid sound in the Dojo and goes out of her way at live shows to produce the accurate setting for the lesson about to be learned. She trained as a classical pianist and learned the framework for creating musical soundscapes. Having constantly traveled at a younger age she was exposed to many types of music in different regions that added to her ninja like skills of adapting to the surreal sound of the Dojo and beyond. This became apparent when she was asked to do a track for a compilation on a label in France called La Fondation that went on to become the vinyl single for the comp called Gasoline. The single was titled Same People and found a large audience, even gaining regular airplay on Radio Nova in France with its message of social harmony through hip-hop. It was then featured in 2004 on the NOVATUNES Vol.6 year end compilation CD along sides such visionaries as Akufen, Boards of Canada, Will I Am and Etienne De Crecy. With her voice cemented in France, La Fondation again extended its hand in the form of a 12" single for the track "Strategic Thoughts" that also features Undefiable and a b-side track from La Fondations DJ Matsa. Between releasing radio charting singles in France, updating this very website, designing flyers (as A.S.IS) & recording Denvers finest MCs she is also putting together her long awaited solo album that should be dropping this Spring.http://www.dojosound.comSelecta Roswell is a veteran producer and beat collector that found his way to hip-hop at an early age and then expanded his inspiration for the almighty beat in clubs and raves and Soundsystems in London and all over Europe. He has played in punk bands, an industrial band and can whip up a mean jungle tune if the hip-hop is done for the day, he's also been seen slinging CD's of his reggae/house project Struggle & Dnile to friends at house labels but that is another tale. Battling for the throne in the Dojo with the Analog Suspect to create a sound of their own and serving it to the masses is where this disciple dwells. You can also catch him throwing down everything from Scientist to David Holmes to Sole to The Specials at many of his sets around town and he will probably try to sell you a Dojo CD out of his record bag. With their sights set on the West Coast, Japan, The United Kingdom and further collaborations with France's La Fondation crew & label, the Dojo is ready to further its "Subliminal Teachings".

Sounds Like: The soundtrack to bombing space trains on a jungle planet ruled by intergalactic ninja's, where the government cares about it's people and the police can eat a dick straight up....or something like that.
