Voices UnBroken

I am here for Networking

About Me

Mission:
Voices UnBroken is a community based organization dedicated to providing under-heard members of the community with the tools and opportunity for creative self-expression. Through creative writing workshops in jails, prisons, group homes, residential treatment facilities, and various other transitional and alternative settings, Voices UnBroken nurtures the inherent need in all people to tell their stories. It is our belief that through this telling of stories and sharing of dreams community growth becomes possible.
Voices UnBroken Four Program Elements
Voices Beyond Bars is a program geared specifically towards working with currently incarcerated youth and adults with the goal of exploring self-expression through the art of creative writing.
Speaking Our Voices is an initiative that reaches into a variety of community and transitional settings that are often outside of mainstream educational systems. Workshops and special programs are designed to serve as a catalyst for the creative process. This initiative will provide participants with a venue for sharing their past and setting goals for their future.
The Voices Network is a collective of former workshop participants, young people, teachers, writers and other artists dedicated to the incorporation of student voices in a learning community. The network involves trainings, workshops, conferences and countless informal networking forums.
Voices Ink is the critical element that focuses on having the voices of our participants heard in a larger community. This includes publication in journals, anthologies and newsletters. Our participants have been featured in Urban Latino Magazine, BLU Magazine, YM Magazine, The Rosewood Newsletter, and The Hunter Envoy.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

BROKEN SHIP

We rock on a broken ship
with no destination, barely floating
on angry waters.

Pieces everywhere, storms everyday
and thoughts of how we will make it through
flow through the tears that overflow the sea.

Waves after waves, we rise and get a hint
of high, a view of a near land but in an instant
we are low and we see nothing but fear in each other's
face.

We worry about the yesterday, the today and the
tomorrow without realizing we might sink today, if not
yesterday then maybe today will be the day.

Seagals fly over us and by now we recognize each one,
by now names were given and enterntainment was developed
through the seagals that we think might shows us the path.

Through the cold winters and the hot summers, we remain
in the water, sinking an inch more everyday, unknowngly
responding to each other's breath.
