DOC HEARL ~ Emmy Award Winning Producer ~ Musician / Singer / Songwriter

About Me

I've been a professional musician since I was 16. I play acoustic & electric guitar, piano & organ, bass, slide, harmonica, mandolin, dobro, autoharp, and steel pan drum. I also sing lead and backup vocals, was the vocal director and band leader for several groups. I have won an Emmy Award, am a BMI affiliated song writer, have 5 national song releases, and 1 international video release. I've played southern & classic rock, blues, R&B (Stax or Motown era), classic & new country, bluegrass, reggae, light or smooth jazz, Americana, Cajun-Zydeco. I have never toured with a major artist, but have opened shows for many of country music's best...Paisley, Chesney, Josh Turner, Sara Evans, She-Daisy, Merle, Vince, Tammy, Paycheck, Keith Whitley...the list goes on and on. Most of the notable artists that I have worked or performed with are blues artists...Tabby Thomas, Chris Thomas King, Tab Benoit, Drew Hooker (son of the late John Lee), and cajun artists Joel Sonnier and Waylon Thibodeaux. I've been in and out of Nashville since 1986, but have lived and worked here since 1999, performing or recording with many unknown artists who are seeking a label, work that includes show cases, playing on Broadway, and other clubs throughout the greater Nashville area. I worked seven months in 2006 with Virginia artist, Johnny Napp, and have appeared in several artist showcases with Nashville Star contestant, Tim Laroche. I spent nine months of 2007 touring the American west with Nashville artist Ronnie Wolf & The Pack, and have, since then, enjoyed staying home, being with my family, working locally, even a day gig, and working on the first of 6 CD's that have been on hold since I left in February of '07. I own and operate Skyline Recording & Digital Works in the West End area of Nashville, a 24-track in-house facility where I also produce demos for song writers, digital backup tracks for solo performers or bands, design logos and promo packages, which includes some photography and digital photo processing/editing.

My Interests

Song writing, performing, motorcycles, bicycles, guns, computers, reading, movies, restaurants, travel, camping, hiking, coin & relic hunting, art and science, people in general, animals of all kinds (I own 2 Siberian tigers), weather, photography, healthy living, biblical history and research.

I'd like to meet:

Jesus...but not today; Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Mark Knopfler. I like hit song writer Charlie Craig, as a writer and as a person; Alex Harvey...just to tell him that I've learned to appreciate what he had to say (although I still don't like the way he said it); people who are interested in artistry and not politics; I like to meet 'leaders', not bosses...there is a difference; people who have a God given sense of clean humor; great story tellers, but not liars; people who realize that being '50' is little more than half way up the mountain...a long way from being over the hill.

Music:

I like anything that's lyrically sound, musically challenging, and artistically done. Santana, Dire Straits, Black Crows, Los Lonely Boys, Clapton, Marley, Hendrix, Seger, Zeppelin, Skynyrd, Eagles, UB-40, Aretha Franklin, CCR, Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitte, ZZ Top, Allman Bros, INXS, Doobie Bros, Cheryl Crowe, Chicago, BB King, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, Ray Charles, many others. I don't listen to country much, but I do like Toby Keith, Merle Haggard, Keith Urban, Steve Earle, Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson, Darryl Worley, and the Dixie Chicks if they would just shut up and sing.

Television:

Discovery Channel, National Geographic, A&E, some AMC and TNT movies. I don't like reality or game shows, medical, court, or sitcom TV. I occasionally watch Law & Order and the CSI's. I know how to cook, and I know how to build a house, so those shows don't usually interest me, but I do like Emeril. I take most world news shows with a grain of salt, but I like Glen Beck's program. I like action packed movies of all kinds; westerns, science fiction, detective, suspense thrillers, historicals, and others. I don't like Freddie Kruger, Jason, Damion, Lewis or Lestat, and couldn't care less about what you did last summer.

Books:

Favorite Authors: JRR Tolkien, John Grisham, Clive Cussler, Zane Grey, Louis La'mour, Anne McAffrey, Tom Clancy, all General Authority level LDS authors.

Heroes:

The Ten Most Influential People In My Life: 1. Jesus Christ; 2. Joseph Smith; 3. Paul Hearl; 4. Hazel Hearl; 5. Roxanne Hearl; 6. Kay Zenisek; 7. Rick Hamilton; 8. Billy Midkiff; 9. Gerald Deans; 10. LDS Missionaries
