About Me

First off. I was not really born in 1978. I simply tell people that I was born in 1978 because that's the year Duran Duran was formed and my world became a better place. Were it not for Nick Rhodes and his penchant for all things arty and pretentious, (anyone remember Nick's 'Moist' trip to the art gallery with Smash Hits?) I, a humble girl from the 'burbs, would never ever have shown an interest in either art or music of any kind, whereas now of course I can't imagine life unable to grasp a Peter Cook joke or laugh at Nick's regular appearances on the pop bitch mailing list looking like the Hello! magazine poptart muppet that he is. Bless.
I am an unabashed eighties and disco geek who knows all the words (and the accompanying actions more often than not) to any given novelty dance with the sole exception of The Hustle and the chicken dance - for obvious reasons. Some things remain to be mastered... some to be obliterated from living memory.

I am a bit of a fan of indulging the inner child, especially when to do so doesn't cost too much (chasing Duran Duran around the country on their 2003 tour notwithstanding). This is a nasty habit that has caused me to collect many metres of vinyl that others have otherwise discarded. Probably with good cause. Anyone with a playable version of the 'Bus Stop' , the holy grail of playable vinyl - I am in the market. This is not to say that I don't have *eclectic* taste in music, simply to acknowledge that if I were on Rockwiz my special subject would inevitably be 80s music trivia, specifically androgynous looking men and Grace Jones.
Back in the day I had a radio show devoted to my passion (70s and 80s disco) called 'The Ruby Cube'. By all accounts it was the squarest disco in town. It was me, a four hour graveyard shift, a stalker (hiya Dennis!) and two or three of my mum's K-Tel complilation rekkids. Scratches, dust and all.
As you can see, I quite like street art and No. I do not think that it all looks like shite or should be banned. It adds character. Like lines on a face.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Young Clint Eastwood; Butter side up.
Young Paul Newman RIP.
Hervey Keitel. Any old age. I like the classics.
For quite some time now I've been collecting the set of 80s Australian front men. Only really Ivor Davies and James Freud to go. I already met all five original members of my all time favourite band Duran Duran in one place at once this part is kind of a drag of a question and a brag all in one. Real nice guys. I was extremely chuffed when JT signed my daggy A-4 sized mirror which has his picture on it. Forever it shall adorn the walls of my er, 'bathroom'. When the technology has been perfected I also plan on cloning Roger using genetic remnants left on the towel he handed to me in Sydney just for yelling out 'best fucking band in the world' with appropriate fist punching actions.
I once bumped into the Dalai Lama near enough to literally at the Art Gallery of New South Wales ... it was more of a surprise to me than you could possibly imagine. I had no idea the DL even liked art. Perhaps he had been speaking to Nick Rhodes?
