When I was 15 I raced home from school found an old spanish guitar and raced up town got it strung and still have all the enthusiam for music that I first had on that day 16 years ago.Music is a journey for me and is the only true way I can express myself without ambiguity it is a ride it has its ups and downs it has its stress's and tension's and it's resolutions but above all there is always something that holds you back, stands in your way and needs to be overcome, music is the mirror image of life.In order to understand music better I decided to recently study a degree in Physics I was taught music theory when I was 8, but the real theory begins with the understanding of equal temperment and how harmonic ratios occur naturally in space, the perfect 5th and fourth 4th for example. For me I needed to go futher and stray beyond the realm in order to grasp the guitar. And yet as far as I have come an infinity still awaits!A great book that has inspired me is the Tao of phyiscs drawing the symmetry between western scienticfic thinking and eastern mysticism, they are the yin and the yang. All western theroies now are based on string theory of which Johannes Kepler (1571-1630) was the first to suggest that the cosmos was ordered by harmony. Sir isac Newton(1642-1727) believed too and saw great insight in his work, even trying to apply a musical scale to the the colours of the visible spectrum. There is so much we still don't know and an infinity yet to explore. Our understanding of sound and science is inconsistent and incomplete, our explanations just do not make sense and even the most basic principle that the universe is infinite is wrong simple because of the big bang, infinity has no start or end that is a paradox in iteslf!Life is a wave it has an upside and down side, there is always two sides with a side in between representing the transient or the mediating force that
simple draws a line between the two.Power is nothing without control and learning how to hold back is the secret to understanding dynamics, I desribe it as how hard you can say something soft and how soft you can say something hard.As a musician tone is gospel so the understanding of tensile emphasis is vital in achieving a good sound. Also aswell if you play a downstroke of a string the tonal qualities will be softer than if you play the same string with exactly the same force with an upstroke, this is different to the dopler effect I'm hacent to add try it for yourselves!Recently I have just been introduced to the work of Zecharia Sitchin who is one of only a few scholars who is able to read clay tablets and interpret ancient Sumerian and Akkadian. This is by far the closet I have come to the truth and is something that would be worth your while studying, see what you think.I'm in the process of recording some new material keep your eyes peeled for that as they will be sounding pretty cool!Watch this space and enjoy my tunes be inspired climb aboard, free your mind and ride the worm!Stuy
