Greenhorns

A longtime pillar of the Czech traditional country music, a band that was most probably the first of its kind to act on the Czech musical scene. It was established in 1965 by Jan Vycítal, Josef Simek and Marko Cermák.
One of the band's most important mileposts was the year 1969/70 when the band stabilised its line-up with Marko Cermák (on banjo), Tomás Linka (harmonica), Josef Simek (mandoline), Jan Vycítal (guitar), Josef Dobes (steel guitar), Vladimír Stýbr (bass), Michal Tucný (vocals) a Miroslav Hoffmann (vocals). The songs from this so called "golden era" have quickly become beloved by many as the wide public popularity was growing.
Although their repertoire was mostly formed from American evergreens by Gene Autrey, Johnny Cash, Johnny Horton and/or Hank Williams it was the combination with the easily-memorable, fun Czech lyrics (by Jan Vycítal) that found the way to peoples' hearts.
In 1974 the group was pushed to change its name to the Czech variant of the same - "Zelenaci". The reasons were purely political (it become simply impossible to play in public with an English sounding name).
The original landmark - Greenhorns has been taken back years later, right after the Velvet Revolution in 1989. The time brought some line-up changes and Jan Vycítal has confirmed his position as a lead singer. Also, the band slightly stepped away from its original style towards the modern country music.
Nowadays, you can see Greenhorns on stage in this line-up: Jan Vycítal (vocals), Milan Cerný (bass), Jirí Zima (steel guitar), Václav Sváb (drums), Jirí 'Eda' Panschab (banjo) a Medard Konopík (guitar, vocals).

Dlouholety pilir ceske tradicni country sceny, skupina, ktera je s nejvetsi pravdepodobnosti prvni sestavou sveho druhu, ktera se na ceske hudebni scene objevila. Roku 1965 ji zalozili výtvarníci Jan Vycítal, Josef Simek a Marko Cermák.
Vyznamnym meznikem umelecke drahy Greenhornu byl rok 1969/70, kdy se sestava stabilizovala ve slození Marko Cermák (banjo), Tomás Linka (foukací harmonika), Josef Simek (mandolina), Jan Vycítal (kytara), Josef Dobes (steel kytara), Vladimír Stýbr (basa), Michal Tucný (zpev) a Miroslav Hoffmann (zpev). Vznikla tak nejsilnejsí sestava kapely tzv. "Zlatá éra" a repertoár z této doby je mozno dodnes slýchat vsude, kde se spontánne zpívá.
Repertoár tehdy tvorily predevsím písne Gene Autreyho, Johnny Cashe, Johnny Hortona nebo Hanka Williamse, k nimz psal ceské texty hlavne Jan Vycítal. Vzniklo tak nekolik úspesných titulu (Blues hvízdavého vlaku, Folsom Prison Blues, Proklatej vuz, Tam blízko Little Big Hornu, Oranzový expres), za které Greenhorns získali mnoho zánrových cen.
Greenhorni vystupovali celkem dlouhou dobu s nazvem Zelenaci. Kapela byla nucena vzit si tento nazev z politických duvodu v roce 1974, zpatky se prejmenovali hned v dobe sametove revoluce 1989. Kapela se zamerila na moderní country a zmenila obsazení, Jan Vycítal se stále casteji zacal uplatnovat jako zpevák.
Po listopadu 1989 doslo k dalsím zmenám v obsazení skupiny. Dnes hraje v sestave: Jan Vycítal (zpev), Milan Cerný (baskytara), Jirí Zima (steel kytara), Václav Sváb (bicí), Jirí 'Eda' Panschab (banjo) a Medard Konopík (kytara, zpev).
