About Me
Cicely has been playing Latin Percussion since the age of 16, and is renowned within the UK Latin Percussion scene for her talent, passion and diversity of styles - from traditional Afro-Latin to contemporary rhythms applicable to funk, reggae, jazz, hip-hop, rock and pop settings. ~ Cicely has performed, collaborated and composed for numerous bands, producers and DJs across Europe. ~ She has studied and performed with world-class musicians such as: Ni Tettey Ade (Kakatsistsi/ Pan-African Orchestra, Ghana); Alberto 'Limon' Perez (Clave y Guaguanco, Cuba); Jesus 'Kusito' Cortez (Los Rumberos de Cuba/ Abilona recordings, Cuba); Octavio Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba); Dudu Tucci (Sao Paulo, Brazil); Ravin Jarisurya (One Voice Music UK); John Hardeman (UK) to name but a few! ~ She was Musical Director and Manager of cutting-edge Carnival Arts company BRINCA from 2000 - 04, directing music & dance shows that toured throughout the UK and headlined at Edinburgh Hogmanay 2003 events to over 100,000 people. ~
As a music tutor, Cicely has a wealth of experience teaching in educational, community and corporate settings. ~ She has taught in over 250 schools and colleges, and facilitated Corporate Training events for BP, American Express, Quest International, and Origen Insurance. ~ She has a Certificate in Music Workshop Skills from Goldsmiths College, and runs regular percussion courses for adults from beginners – advanced level. ~ Instruments: Congas: quinto, conga, tumba, supertumba; Timbales; Cajons (box drums); Bata; Samba instruments: surdo, caixa, repinique, timbal, tamborim; Hand percussion: cowbells, agogo, clave and shakers: pandeiro; chekere, ganza, chocalho. ~ Festival Performances: Glastonbury 05 and ‘00, Continental Drifts stage, Lost Vagueness; Waterford Spraoi Festival 03, Ireland; The Bowl Festival 03, Crystal Palace; Manchester X-trax 02; Winchester Hat Fair 2002 –05; WOMAD 2001; Wembley Stadium 2000. ~
