DJ EUPHORIA

PEACE. I am DJ EUPHORIA, fresh out of retirement for summer 2007. i left school in 1990 with no GCSE results to speak of. i spent the summer getting pissed and generally being a lad. i used to listen to hip hop, hip house, and Jeff youngs 'big beat' on radio one before the days of Pete tong and wanted to get into the rave scene badly, but had no other mates into it as much as me. eventually i met a load of lads who had been raving for a couple of years and they took me to 'The Eclipse' in Coventry, late in 1990. i was expecting a normal nightclub with a bit of rave music. i was wrong! that night changed my life forever, and i was addicted to it immediately. It was also my first acid tab as well and it blew my mind. a purple ohm it was. i have never been so twisted in my whole life before or since. New age, Amnesia house, Raindance were my new icons. I started DJ'ing on 2 hifi turntables and picked it up straight away. i got my very first gig in a pub in nuneaton playing a mates records around may/June 1991 and things took off from there! whilst i was learning my skills i was going to raves like Amnesia house, Time, Raindance, Dance planet and others. 1991 was the year that the rave scene started to explode into the mainstream and was an exciting year. during 1991 i played mostly in local pubs to earn beer money, but then in 1992 i teamed up with some other ravers and started setting up our own parties around Coventry and surrounding area's, called UTOPIA. as our name grew we put on bigger and bigger nights, including an illegal rave in a quarry in wales! this was to be a bit of a let down, as the police got word of it and surrounded the quarry, stopping ravers from getting in. 2 coach's full of ravers from Coventry and nuneaton had travelled all the way to wales and they were not taking NO for an answer! around 3 hundred people managed to get in but we lost a lot of money. after that we decided to go legit, and started up club nights in Coventry. this was a good time for us, and i managed to get in with the sound crew from the Edge (formerly the Eclipse) in Coventry, who supplied the sound system for our raves. this also got me into the Edge on a weekly basis DJ'ing in room 2 every week, and covering for Djs that didn't turn up or were late. this was a difficult time for me, as the music had turned to the 'Dark side' of jungle and i wasn't feeling it anymore, so i started playing happy hardcore instead. after putting on a few happy hardcore raves i decided to hang up my headphones from the hardcore scene and went back to promoting small illegal raves again. that was and still is the essence of the rave scene that no longer existed and this was also the happiest time i spent DJ'ing. i eventually gave up in 1998 and got back into hip hop again. i started to make nu skool tunes at home on an mc303 (mainly for myself, i never had any intention of publishing any) and that was the end of my raving days.......
