About Me
Dan Currie is a singer/songwriter, guitarist and resident of Charlottetown, PEI who decided he would like to play some roots rock, guitar rock, and a little country, all tinged with a hint of the blues and make it sound like it was the 1970's again.
Growing up, there was always a guitar around the house. Dan began to take playing seriously when he was 10,wrote his first song and performed in public when he was 11,and joined his first band when he was 12. At this time he also learned to play the banjo. By 16, he was already performing in bars and learning harmonica. A number of bands followed. At 17, he knew music would be his life. The course was set. He hit the road.
After a stint on the west coast, which included a short lived gig in a Black Sabbath tribute band, Dan returned to PEI in 1998. It was at this point Dan began performing solo gigs with mostly original tunes and some choice covers from legends like, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, Leadbelly and Robert Johnson. He helped create the popular Psychedelic Rock Ensemble, Eyes For Telescopes in 2000,who were nominated for 2 ECMA's and 2 PEI Music Awards. He was also an original member of the Tuesdays when they got together in 2001who were nominated for a PEI Music Award as well.
His first solo album, "A Cared For Place", put him squarely on the road to his destination. The album was nominated for a 2004 PEI Music Award. He formed Double Ought Buckshot in 2004, to perform at A Cared For Place cd release party. DOB took on a life of it's own, releasing a 6 song EP in February of 2006,which was nominated for an award that same year.
Taking a deeper look, Dan has decided to go back to his roots, focussing more on his songwriting ability and knack for a catchy melody, rather than earsplitting electric guitars. Last spring ,he got together with Craig MacPherson and Mike MacDougall, who were also memebers of Eyes for Telescopes and the Tuesdays, to form "Dan Currie and What Happened Tomorrow". They began performing the kind of music that Dan longed to play. The three have been practising hard at getting a solid live sound with original songs written by Dan.They finished recording 20 songs in October 2007 dwindling 20 songs down to just enough to put on an album was hard, but they think that they've got it down.(that album has been nominated forMusic PEI country album of the year "The sky is the limit," as it's been said, and Dan Currie hopes to go beyond that.Sadly Craig has lefy for Thailand ,but gladly his brother Nick has joined the band to take Craig's place.Nick was also in DOB.They are going into the studio in March to make an even better recording. Dan is waiting to get back on the road with great anticipation and hopes of continuing to leave his mark on the world of music.
