Well I've lived for a while and have learned a lot. I'm not sure if you'd say I'm wise - more of a wise guy...I grew up in Townsend MA and finished high school there. Then I went to Mount Wachussett Com Collage for a few years, transfered to Unity Collage (Maine) and got my AS in art & general studies, BS in Environmental Sciene, and a minor in art.I then went to New Brunswick Bible Institution where I met Mary. At first we didn't like each other, but we were two of a group of eight that that met for prayer before meals. That plus being in chior brought us together. April 13 1985 we married. We have three sons (My 3 Sons) who were more than a handful!! They are mostly grown up and soon we will be alone again. This means time to spend dating each other. We have learned over the years that marriage & love is more than a feeling it is a commitment!!In 2004 we attended some Ren. fairs as a family. This resulted in our involvment in several groups. The Neville Companye of Augusta ME, SCA of central Maine, and the Maine Vikings (Vineholm). The swords you see in the pictures are not sharp and are sometimes used for "live steel" demonstrations. But I am not part of this due to medical conditions = I'm too old! However, I do play some of my instruments and with my buddy Mathius/Ulf we play at lots of events. Someday maybe a CD? I also do "period cooking," and hope to set up a shop to make period musical instruments. My music is part of my heritage. Both My grand father and great grand father made violins, violas, and cellos in the mid 1800’s to the turn of the century. My dad used to play the violin when I was young and taught me how to bow the strings. But in the mid 1960’s he started playing guitar and was in a few Country & Western bands. Most summers we would travel to local towns in central MA where he would play in the bands. For a few years he was at a camp ground (Lost River) in Ashburnham. We would get free camping for his playing. In 1970 I purchased my first guitar from K-Mart for $40. Latter a friend gave me his Hondo triple 0. I also came across a Rickenback electric Bass for $30 and this is what I mostly played in the bands. In the late 1970’s I was in a few bluegrass bands and played an upright bass. At this time I also picked up a banjo and started learning some easy songs.I left the “Back Porch String Band†in the fall of 1980 just before we were discussing cutting an album. After I moved to Maine to continue my collage, I found out that the group changed their name to “Billings Gap,†my old Room mate’s girlfriend took my spot playing bass. It was great to watch since she was short and had to reach above her head to play the bass. To beet all they did cut that album. I am not sure if it is because I left or that the new bass player drew interest. Anyway I still hold hope that some day I will cut an album, umm a CD.I started making instruments in 1979 with my first being a Mountain Dulcimer kit that I made with abalone and mother of pearl inlay. In 1980-81 I made a hammered dulcimer, which now needs new strings and modified bridges. While Mary and I had our three sons it was difficult to continue playing instruments so they were put in the closet for a few years. It was about 2000 when I started playing again. Mary and I would sing “spiritual†and I would play guitar at local churches.About 2003 I was encouraged to be more involved with my sons and do some stuff that they likes. Since they were very interested in medieval warfare, knights and such, we investigated a few events. This resulted in our involvement in the local groups I mentioned above. I now pursue Celtic, Irish, and Viking music. In 2003 I purchased a set of practice bagpipes for Mary, but she does not like playing them, so I took it up. I also purchased an Irish tin whistle, and a recorder (I used to play one in 3rd grade). In 2005 Mary gave me a 12 string guitar for our anniversary. I have also picked up a mandolin, and in 2005 my sons chipped in and got me a violin ($40) for father’s day. In 2007 I purchased a German rote/lyre kit and have a down payment on a Sutton Hoo lyre replica. All of these instruments we use when we play and perform at Renaissance Fairs and group events. My dad gave Mary and me a 55 gallon fish tank as a wedding present, among other things. This started our fish business/hobby. When we were first maried we bread guppies and collected marine fish off Cape Cod and Newprt RI. In 1990 we formalized a business that breed goldfish, tropical fish, lizards and mice. I also consulted with several environmental firms for bioassay work, as well as several contract with various agencies in Maine.Presently I am an Environmental Specialist working on varrious Air Pollution issues, and have a family farm growing marine soft coral. Mary breeds French Alpine goats and horses.
