A Scandal in Bohemia

About Me

Hello Folks
The time has come for A Scandal in Bohemia. We will no longer be making music under this name or in this line-up, but we do hope to continue making music as a collective with our various incarnations all made up from members of this band which you can find in our top friends; ELIZABETH (Elizabeth Walling), White Tiger (Ed Briggs, Thom Punton, James Barton, Max Hallett), Your Laughter (James Barton), and Max and The Swing Commanders (Max Hallett, James Barton, Ed Briggs, Thom Punton, Leo Piggott and guests), Chechnya Blast (Leo Piggott). We will post info about various events as and when they happen.
We have played some pretty amazing gigs over the last 3 years, with some of our favourite bands and artists. We would like to thank all those who came to our gigs, especially the 'regulars', and for the massive amount of local support we had from promoters, journalists and radio stations for our music.
This page will remain as a memento of the music we made as A Scandal In Bohemia. The recordings that are up on the player will remain there until the end of time... this includes our first and only release, an EP entitled CHINA which can still be purchased for £5 plus £1.50 postage until they sell out completely (after which you will own a collectors itme ;) ). Please see the link to buy through paypal or you can just message us through myspace to order.
The EP is also available to buy in Resident Records in Brighton.

Sounds Like: "Best Brighton Group"
THE WIRE

"The most scandalous thing about this Brighton outfit is that they aren't better known." BEARDED Magazine, Jan 2009

"Tracks which sound like someone searching for a station on a Thirties radio. Their jazz-tinged songs fade into each other and build gently before collapsing in a swirl of brass, scratchy samples, manic drumming and looped vocals." THE ARGUS, Brighton

"Taking it back to the sounds of the perfume garden" BBC southern counties radio

"A Scandal In Bohemia, their sound as moving, grand and as wonderfully pretentious as their name." FACT Magazine

"a trip to the Limits to hear A Scandal in Bohemia, who have previously appeared alongside better-known post-rock groups such as A Silver Mt. Zion. The five-piece band are young and formidably talented with obviously extensive classical training, each member able to switch instruments at will...with vocals provided by three different band members and superb drumming. The music itself has very strong contemporary classical elements alongside strong post-rock dynamics with a thrilling progression through many of the songs from delicate melodies to climactic walls of noise, and the overall effect is very powerful and an extremely impressive live spectacle."
