About Me

For Doug Shea, the passionate pursuit of music represents his life story, not merely the contents of a resume. The heart-stirring works he composes and produces have become a remarkably important part in the lives of all his devoted listeners, through his remarkably diverse ventures on his own recordings showcased on radio, theater, internet, stage, pod-casts, CD’s and now film.Born in a suburb of Milwaukee Wisconsin. He was helped by his Mother at age seven commanding him to play a musical instrument for one year, at which time he could decide if this would be something to continue one with. Music stuck, learning half dozen instruments through his youth, grade school and high school. The pursuit of performing music as a touring musician called college to a halt with many sporadic semesters in the process of gigging. Hitting the road hard with 200-250 dates a year and touring over hundreds of college campuses along with the club circuits. Performing with over 40 Major Label recording acts such as Nickelback, Creed, Buckcherry, Stained, Lifehouse, Saliva, 3 Doors Down, Soul Asylum, Fast Ball, Tonic, Sister Hazel and Bush to name a few. Doug Shea soon became a force to be reckoned with, as the lead vocalist/guitarist/songwriter in the national touring act Spirit Creek. www.TheSpiritCreek.comWith over seventy-five songs written, songs like “Rise,” “Only Human,” “The Light,” “Why ask Why,” “Call the Rain,” “Us Against the World,” and “Hold Me Close” made the semi-finals of such great songwriting contests, ISC, JLSC, IMC as well as a half dozen others. The song “Is There Someone Out There,” won Spirit Creek “The Yahoo best unsigned band in America” award out of 2500 bands nation wide. As well as the song “…and Together” slated to be the original Spiderman move theme, but was dropped at the last minute.Spirit Creek decided after a decade to take a brief hiatus. This allowed Doug Shea to continue and finish college with a degree in Music Composition from UWOsh. Soon after, Doug Shea accepted a job as a music director for a non-denominational church in River Hills Wisconsin. Expanding his musical horizons with Choirs, hymns, drama as well as a multitude of instruments spanning from classical to contemporary instruments. After four years of experience, Doug Shea decided to move on to a new church in Mequon Wisconsin, allowing him the freedom and creativity to grow, develop and fine-tune all aspects of music. With the purchase of his own recording studio, Doug Shea and Spirit Creek decided to record a new album. “A Culture of Unaccountability” with Doug as the chief songwriter adds another eleven new songs to the table. The album was independently recorded, produced, edited and engineered solely by Shea.Doug Shea has recently finished recording his “Bridges” church band named “Numavox” with a debut album released in October 08'.Doug also has done some score work in film, as he explains, "The musical turning point of my life was hearing Danny Elfman 1992 score to “Batman Returns” directed by Tim Burton. I remember lying on the couch with my headphones on sleeping to that score and falling asleep in awe. His approach was so fresh, haunting and yet powerful, I remember thinking I want to create music like his. At that moment, I decided I really had to do something that was involved with music and film. I just never thought I could do it, till now!”Doug Shea was slated to help a very low budget independent horror film. All six pieces to that film were composed, recorded, produced, edited and engineered by Doug at his own studio....you can see these pieces at www.YouTube.com under "SpiritVox"Doug Shea is now in the process of working on his debut solo album to be released in the summer of 2009!!To contact Doug: [email protected]
