In 2005, Spin magazine predicted that Montreal was going to be "the next big scene". Similarly, the New York Times asked "Which American city is the next big thing?" and replied "This is a trick question, because the answer seems to be Montreal."
Still only in his 20s, The Autist (Mathieu Arsenault) is recognized as a rising star in this, one of the hottest scenes in North America. He is a cofounder of top Montreal parties, including Refuge Électronik and more recently Tistik. In addition to his own venues, the Autist has been the headline act at leading Montreal events, such as Swirl. He is also a partner in the cutting-edge disc and net label Epsilonlab (www.epsilonlab.com).
In both 2005 and 2006 The Autist had the honor of being voted one of the best electronic acts in Montreal by the city’s residents.
His interest in music started at a very young age, encompassing the flute, the organ and later the guitar and a stint with his own garage band. Growing up, the spectrum of his musical tastes ranged across all genres, from jazz, to rock… to techno and house.
More recently, the Autist’s digital career has seen him perform before crowds of thousands at world-renowned Montreal clubs including SONA, Circus and Stereo. In 2006, he also performed in front of over 2 millions peoples at the legendary Berlin’s Love Parade.
Constantly evolving, The Autist’s current musical direction is taking him towards a warmer musical climate of house and techouse grooves, with an electro touch. Underlying heavy minimalist structures serve as a basis propelling dance floor fanatics. Electronic music fans can look forward to the joy of experiencing his distinctive high-energy artistry.
