Reign In Darkness

Reign In Darkness is an independent Vampiric Horror Film which was completed in 2002. Directed by and starring Kelly Dolen and David Allen it was shot by Cinematographer Dennys Ilic for a mere AU$49,000, has been distributed in 27 countries and grossed over USD$6 million. Gaining a legion of fans worldwide the Reign trailer cut by Dennys experienced over 7.2 million downloads from the official website.
Reign in Darkness was a bold step for the team. Utilizing then new 3-chip digital hand-held cameras, they secured the first three PD150's to land in Australia from Sony. Their guerilla style filmmaking is no longer so easy to accomplish with the political climate of this day and age. Flying a helicopter down Collins street or under Westgate Bridge is a bit difficult without attracting the attention of the air force.
But the genius and business acumen of creating a genre feature so cheaply did not go unnoticed and Reign enjoyed much coverage on the web and in local magazines and press with multi-page spreads in Filmink and IF not to mention Cinematheque Magazine in France where the film was a big hit, undergoing the full French voice dub.
In 2003 Dennys Ilic received an ACS (Australian Cinematographers Society) award for his work on Reign which sports a magnificent Bladerunneresque soundtrack by the hugely talented John Clifford White (Romper Stomper, Macbeth). As the film kept raking in profits from international DVD sales the local distributor - Madman Entertainment sold-out its entire production run on both DVD and VHS. Internationally the film is still distributed and sold as a mainstream feature in stores such as Tower Records, Borders and Circuit City.
