About Me
Back in the day Les Style received his first musical influences from his parents, James & Sarah Johnson. They often had house parties where I was made to go to bed early but I wasn't sleep because mom & dad would often pull out the guitar and start singing the old Down South Georgia Blues. The neighborhood that I grew up in had some high profile artists that would always stop by to have impromptu jam sessions with a neighbor of ours that lived around the corner. The person they came to jam with was the one and only Muddy Waters. It was not uncommon to see black Limos pull up with people getting out holding guitars and it wasn't a funeral. People such as, The Beattles, The Rolling Stones, B. B. King and Elvis Presley (YES, I SAW ELVIS).During that time my dad decided to take a vacation to go Down South to Augusta, Georgia to visit family, my Aunt Rose and Uncle Sam. It was a long trip but we finally made it and I was happy to see Aunt Rose and Uncle Sam. After settling in, my family went to another room and left me upfront and my dad turned around and said ' don't bother that guitar in the corner', with me being the curious and inquisitive child that I was, I bothered it anyway, and it hit the floor and broke the neck of a fender jass bass (see my uncle use to manage bands back in the day, and the group he mananged at that time was James Brown And The Flames (YES, THE GODFATHER OF SOUL)). Well, needless to say, I got a butt whipping (you might call it child abuse by today's standards) and became a bass player at the same time, because you see I had to buy that bass. So, the musical seeds had been planted in to my soul. I was growing up during the civil rights movement which my mom was a part of and the March on Washonton. the birth of Motown, the Phildelphia sound, such artists as Barry White, Harold Melvin And The Blue Notes, etc. As I got older I started playing with various bands in high school, in the neighborhoods and college. Under the direction of Judson Hixon, I got a chance to record my very first record, under the Spirit label entitled 'I Know You Can', which I wrote, performed and produced. I have performed and played for large audiences around the country, The Civic Opra House in Chicago, The former Meca Arena in Milwaukee, the former Rosement Horizon in Rosement, IL, The Playboy mansion in Chicago. I also had the pleasure of playing with a group by the name of 'High Powered Spirit' who received an opportunity to play for Chicago's first Black Mayor, The Honorable Harold Washington, who loved the song we perfomed 'Ain't No Stopping Us Now'.Les-Syle took a break from music to get married and raise a family and currently still works for the Chicago Police Department. After the death of several people that he knew at the Chicago Police Dept. Les-Style was involved in fund raisers for fallen officers and family members to raise money for the immediate family and scholarships for their children. Les-Style got together with other friends who were also police officers and put together several different bands for those fund raisers and one of those performances was held at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. During that time Les-Style was urged by various friends and co-workers to take a serious look at his music career and to pick back up his bass guitar and to get back into music. With the blessings of the Heavenly Father I returned and Glass Heart Productions Incorporated was born.
