About Me

Someone once said I made them think of three things: Manics, Alan Partridge and cheese. I think that pretty much says it all... but I'll add more anyway. I'm an "Analyst Programmer", which is basically a fancy term for a code monkey. For a bank, which means I get free samples to take home (ho ho ho).

I play bass in a band called Stroszek . Without meaning to sound cocky, we're easily the greatest band Scotland has ever produced. Yes, even better than The Proclaimers. The competition from Cocteau Twins is mightier, but let's face it, you've never fucking heard of them.

I also hold the world record for the most consecutive listens of Stefan Dennis' seminal 1989 should've-been-a-hit song Don't It Make You Feel Good. Probably.

I like "shit" jokes (i.e. jokes of such AMAZING high calibre that most people think they're just bad puns. But they're obviously not.) Give me a second series, you shit. Actually, give me a first one.

One day I would like to grow a moustache as magnificent as Tom Selleck's in his Magnum prime.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Mike Patton (the man is a true musical and comedy genius), Richey Edwards, James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire, Sean Moore, Jaz Coleman, Steve Coogan, Armando Iannucci, Chris Morris, Morrissey, Chuck D, Fred Dinenage, Ian Smith (aka Harold Bishop from Neighbours) and Joe Strummer's ghost.

Oh, and this guy:

DON'TITMAKEYAFEEEELGOOOOOOOOOD??????

This country (and the world basically) is well and truly fucked

I'm reading a book just now called "Squandered: How Gordon Brown Is Wasting Over One Trillion Pounds Of Our Money", and although I'm only about 60 pages in, it's already making utterly depressing read...

Ladytron live: a massive disappointment

Les and I went to see Ladytron at the Oran Mor tonight. Ladytron are one of my favourite current bands, and the songs I've heard from their soon-to-be-released 4th album, Velocifero, are absolutely fa...

Stuff To Do This Year

I’ve been thinking recently that I’ve achieved very little in the past 8 years. At school, I was fucking superb. At uni, I got lazy. I should have been gunning for a first; instead, I just...

Have you seen the state of the album charts?

I used to think the singles chart mattered. Then I grew up and realised it didn't matter what the fuck was at number one, particularly considering efforts to essentially buy the top spot, like at Chri...

The English Language

I'm teaching myself German just now. Although I did German for 4 years at school, I've basically forgotten it all (apart from certain words like Käse and certain phrases like Ich habe Käse gekauft.) ...

Simple Minds/Bassists

Been listening to Simple Minds this evening, and then watching a few of their videos on youtube. Couple of hilarious ones (80s promos usually are), but also some suprisingly cool looking ones. I've al...
