John Baxter and the Bottomfeeders

About Me

John Baxter released his first record in 2001 as an independent artist. The album, “Here I Come,” was recorded at Melody Hill Studio in Louisville, KY by Vince Emmett. This is where John met Donnie Bott, a producer, recording engineer and bass player at Melody Hill. At about the same time John also meet Kyle Harvison, a guitar player who was interested in his sound. John was playing solo shows at O’shea’s Irish Pub on Baxter Ave., one of the busiest sections of town. He was looking to form a band and with Kyle, Donnie and drummer Pete Lentz backing him up as the Bottomfeeders, they got their first gig at Froggy’s. After playing several more clubs and lots of traditional country and pop covers on Baxter Ave. and honing their original sound they focused on playing their original material at Uncle Pleasant’s. Owner Steve Davis took a liking to John and his music and saw to it that they got plenty of stage time. A few years later and after working on new material in a home studio Donnie ran into an old friend from Nashville named Robert Reynolds, who told him about Sixteen Ton Studio where they decided to record the next record. With Kyle finishing his Masters in psychology and Pete having a child (Miles) and starting a family the hunt was on for a few new musicians for the recording. They talked their friend Jason Loewenstein (Sebadoh) into playing acoustic guitar, a 180 shift from his normal genre. Paul Deakin (Mavericks, David Mead, Hillbilly All-stars), another friend, filled the drumming duties. And by sheer luck they came across Porter McClister (Tanya Tucker) who had a style that glued the sound together. In three days they laid the foundation of twelve new songs. As of yet untitled and in its final stages it has the makings of a great album.JohnBaxter and The Bottomfeeders LIVE!!!
