From the streets of Far Rockaway Queens, N.Y. to the stages of some of the most respected artist around, SHO-TYME has truly lived up to his name. Because it best describes his versatile style of choreography, and his creative vision to be able to put on a show at any given time... and he has done just that.
As a kid, Sho-Tyme always felt a sense of rhythm and music. Hearing any type of music was an instant motivation for him, and he would envision movement in his head almost instantly upon hearing the first notes. Although growing up dancing was a positive outlet that kept him from a life on the streets, it soon became his future career. The unique thing to note about Sho-Tyme is that he never had any type of formal training. His mission has been to make an effort to stay true and original to his own style rather than mimicking somebody else’s movements and shadowing their style.
The first person to inspire Sho-Tyme to be a dancer in the industry was a guy named Fendi, who “had a unique style of movement and could utilize and control his flexibility in his body, creating and innovative style of hip hop.†So from then on, Sho-Tyme has worked on training and conditioning himself to do the same, as well as pushing the limits of what his body could do. He describes his style of hip hop as old school freestyle, with a mix of popin, house, and his interpretation of what people call “street jazzâ€. His choreography consist of clean sharp movements with a lot of energy and level changes; but can be smooth as well. Basically anything that is exciting for the viewers to be entertained by.
Sho-Tyme's first start in the industry came through a guy named Keith Williams. The job was with the C&C Music Factory, which was followed by Lisa Lisa... and many more followed. The industry soon noticed this incredibly humble and talented dancer, who had quite the innovative and fresh style in choreography. Soon he branched into choreographing for artist such as Mya, Genuine, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, J. Lo just to name a few. In the past year, Sho-Tyme is also the man behind the new look and dance style for Gwen Stefani and the Harajuku Girls.
In between his his hectic schedule, Sho-Tyme manages to teach in the U.S., Canada, and Japan. Sho-Tyme hopes to be able to bring to others the true essence and love of hip hop and dance as a whole. He would like for people across the world to be able to see his vision and experience the true love & essence of dance and hopes to inspire people to push their limits.
In his continued growth as a person and dancer Sho-Tyme is now training in the styles of Popin and Boogaloo from the one and only Electric Boogaloos. No matter what you do in life Sho-Tyme encourages people to believe in themselves and never give up. Sho-Tyme wishes in his travels across the world teaching and choreographing Videos, Tours, Show Cases, TV Shows Commercials Films or whatever he gets his hands on he truely wishes to shake hands with everyone he has inspired through his vision in dance.
