Well... It's been a long minute since I last updated this area. I am still working (grateful) a disaster site. I am in Jefferson City, Missouri. I call it Misery... But I guess it's all in the putting the emphasis on the right syl-AH-ble.Jefferson City is the capital here but, unlike most capitals, it's smaller than the states major cities of Kansas City and St. Loius. It is very quiet here. There is NO rush hour. Seriously... If I see 30 cars on the road at the same time... it's a funeral.I did get to explore a little of the city the otherday and came across an old majestic structure. They call it the "Missouri State Penitentiary". It's beautiful. I'm sure not so much from the inside... lol.Of note with this facility is its gas chamber. Located just off one of the secondary buildings in plain site from anywhere in the "yard" it has been lovingly used... Missouri had been keeping pace with an execution a year. Prior to the gas chamber being built, prisoners were hung by the local sheriff in plain view of anyone wanting to watch.Built in 1916, the penitentiary has housed the likes of James Earl Ray (shot MLK) and of "Pretty Boy" Floyd.Currently, under reconstruction, the new facility will keep several of the old building intact and accompany them with new modern structures. A new federal courthouse will stand on the grounds and the old administrative areas of the jail will be maintained. It's a grand piece of history. I'm glad I was able to see it.
