About Me

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven....It was the spring of 1998 when destiny finally met with purpose to form a powerful life-changing ministry for a present-day generation. This ministry had a triumphant sound to be heralded throughout the earth, not simply for worldly acclaim or applause from man, but that the glory of the Lord might further be revealed through the gift and ministry of song. Blending together an aggregation of anointed psalmists and minstrels, A. Terence Brownlee & Approved made its public debut, LIVE in Concert, June 1999.With a call to minister to the masses - beyond the walls of the church - the ultimate passion of Approved is to elevate a standard of true worship and praise within believers, as well as reaching the unchurched, backsliders, and unbelievers. The first album, FLY AWAY, released with regional acclaim in 2000. The sophomore project, READY WHEN HE COMES, is being distributed throughout the nation and receiving glaring reviews from other artists, producers, radio personalities, and gospel music lovers alike.A. Terence Brownlee has been blessed to share the stage with various gospel artists inclusive of, but not limited to: Hezekiah Walker & Love Fellowship, LaShun Pace, Byron Cage, BeBe Winans, John P. Kee & New Life, Rodney Bryant & Yet Unseen, B. Chase Williams & Shabach, Bishop Murphy Pace & The Voices of Power, The Indiana State Mass Choir, Witness, and Keith Brooks & New Creation.Jesus said ..But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth for the Father seeketh such to worship him... This scripture embodies the essence of A. Terence Brownlee & Approved. It is on this premise that the ministry stands firm, as living epistles read and known of men, offering themselves as vessels of sacrifice to be used for the Master's work and glory."Be diligent to present yourself approved before God, a workman which needs not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Altos: Tamarah Brownlee, Virginia Githiri, Glory Harris, Melissa Houston, Demetria Jackson, Nissa Majors. Tenors: Cyntressa Dickey, Kelly Ivy, Kyle Ivy, Jason Scott. "Da Band"...Musical Director / Keys: Matt "Matty-Matt" Brownie, Bass: Jeremy "J-Bones" Taylor, Keys / Auxiliary: Floyd "Sticky Fingers" Thomas, Percussion: Kimball "Beast" Glaspie and Kevin "Deacon" Ivy, Jr.
Influences: So many different influences that if I had 10,000 tongues...I just couldn't name them all. But to list a few, I'll start with my Mom for teaching me to have faith and always to keep Christ first in all that I do, and then my Dad for showing me how to walk with my head held high, to have no fear, and to love my family uncoditionally. Much thanks to the Supreme Lyricists who have helped me to write songs that go beyond the norm by using unconventional words and phrasing to express every day ideas that all persons can relate to: Walter Hawkins, Edwin Hawkins, Andre Crouch, Thomas Whitfield, Rudolph Stanfield, Darius Brooks, Daryl Coley, Kirk Franklin, Donald Lawrence, James Hall, and my guy, Claudius Craig. Musical Composers and Instrumentalists: Richard Smallwood, Thomas Whitfield (again), Earth-Wind-and Fire, Mint Condition, Victor Wooten, Melvin Crispell, Kevin Bond, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, and Joe Sample for stretching the limits of music composition and utilizing instruments, sounds, and rhythms that "surface artists" stay away from. Powerful Vocalists to die for: Commissioned (Fred Hammond, Marvin Sapp, Marcus Cole, Mitchell Jones), Kim Burrell, J. Moss, old school Tremaine, Donny Hathaway, LaLa Hathaway, Take 6, Brian McKnight, Kayla Parker, Marvin Winans, CeCe Winans, Dorinda Clark-Cole, old school Michael Jackson, Nat King Cole, Stevie Wonder (again), Vanessa Bell Armstrong, and Roberta Flack. Gifted arrangements, unique phrasing, and tight production: Kirk Franklin, Donald Lawrence, Fred Hammond, Tye Tribett, L. Spenser Smith, Gary Mayes, Lisa McClendon, Myron Butler, and new school Adrienne Archie. The church-boy in me loves the "churchiness" of O'landa Draper, Hezekiah Walker, Ricky Dillard, DeAndre Patterson, Bishop Paul Morton, Shirley Ceasar, and Twinkie Clark-Terrell. Finally and most importantly, the overflow anointing, worshipper, and prophetic psalmist mantle of Donnie McClurkin, Israel Houghton, old school Yolanda Adams, new school Karen Clark Sheard, Byron Cage, Leslie Pace, Judith Christie-McCallister, Clay Crosse, Michael W. Smith, and Damita Haddon.
