When you slide the second album by Sugar Mountain into your CD player it's only a matter of seconds before you realize that this band knows how to rock and roll. With their debut release, Hand Crafted Tunes, Sugar Mountain firmly established themselves as a band with true conviction. On their follow-up, In The Raw, they continue spreading their love for rocknroll with an album full of powerful riffs, infectious grooves and catchy melodies, all played with the swagger and attitude that are lacking in so many of today's bands. There is no doubt that Sugar Mountain are first-class rock'n'roll craftsmen in the tradition of great bands like the Stones and Faces.

"I know we are not in 1964, but sometimes I pretend so" says 1964, one of the tracks on In The Raw. With the hundreds of bands that we are bombarded with every week, we need to arm ourselves with tools like allmusic.com and an 80 gigabyte iPod just to sift through all the rubbish and find the true gems. So, its a really welcomed breath of fresh air when a record like In The Raw is released in this day and age.
Sugar Mountain took their time to made a record the way it was done back in the day... slowly and carefully, with attention to detail. The band hired Eric 'Roscoe' Ambel (Del-Lords, Yayhoos, Steve Earle) to handle the production duties. The album was mixed at Cowboy Technical Services by Greg Duffin (Robbie Fulks, Wilco, Marshall Crenshaw) and mastered by Scott Hull (Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Herbie Hancock).
With stories we can all relate to about love, redemption, fate and hope, Sugar Mountain have succeeded in making a classic album that is the perfect soundtrack for this winter.
As an added bonus, the album contains a video documentary on the making of In The Raw.

A los pocos segundos de deslizar el segundo álbum de Sugar Mountain en tu reproductor de CD ya te has dado cuenta de que esta banda sabe facturar rock y del bueno. No hay lugar aquí para confirmación alguna porque con Hand Crafted Tunes quedó todo muy claro: Sugar Mountain saben hacer buena música. In The Raw es un nuevo conjunto de grandes canciones que situan a Sugar Mountain como artesanos del rock de primera clase. En la mejor tradición de Faces y Stones: riffs contundentes, melodías luminosas y actitud que para sí quisieran muchas viejas glorias.
