BIOGRAPHY
In 1994 starts taking shape, in Varese, the sound of the upbeat of Bassistinti, a passionate trip into Jamaican music, London bluebeat and Buenos-Aires Latin ska; this and much more, a mix of ragga, roots, ska 2tone, rock steady and dub.
A trip into Jamaican culture and music from the sixties till nowadays. This is shortly the artistic progression of Bassistinti .
In 1995 Bassistinti auto-produce, for their debut, a six song demo that makes things clear at once: ska in 2tone style and ballades near the Mano Negra style.
The first record of the band is dated 1988. It is called ..Bassin..core.. and is produced by Tube Record, Varese. It sounds like a malting pot in which however the two main lecture keys are reggae and punk ska; with this record the band starts its real first tour at a national level.
In 2001 they go back to auto-production with a mini LP (Covered Skank) which is a cover collection as clearly stated in its title (among others it includes ..A Message to You Rudy.. from the Specials) it is a version revised and corrected into Bassistinti style, they say.
2002 ..Mosquito Latino..
Produced by Alternative Produzioni and distributed by Venus, marks the transition from a ska-rock-punk sound towards a research of music and vibrations nearer Jamaican style.
..Mosquito Latino.. is, in fact, the fruit of a careful research of each single sound, of each single rhythm; it includes the Latin ska rhythm of ..Follow Me.., the 2tone ska of Mosquito Latino, the reminiscences of the Buenos-Aires sounds (Los Pericos and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs), the London bluebeat of the end of the seventies (see ..The Specials..). The issue of the record is followed by a ..tour de force.. in which the band performs in the most important Italian live clubs, sharing the floor with Buju Banton, Bluebeaters, NY Ska Jazz Ensemble etc.
2004 ..Don't Cry For Me...
After Mosquito Latino, Bassistinti introduce some changes, first of all in the line up.
Mulaska, The Drew and Marcopaglia, the band milestones are supported by four new musicians whose previous experience and background help to turn the sound of the band toward jazz: well, jazz, but not only jazz. The record is a jump backwards of many years, to the Skatalites music, to Jamaican reggae of the sixties: Rough, dirty and ..cool.. as it would have been appreciated by the sound manipulators of Studio One.
..Don..t Cry For Me.. is the first auto-production of the band, that for the occasion builds up its studio and edits the artistic features of pre- and post album production, taking also advantage of the co-operation of the famous drummer Ivan Ciccarelli and of the refined Sardinian singer Simona Salis.
The style and references of Bassistinti are manifold, because they think of music keeping in mind all what is plaid on the upbeat paying special attention to the unforgettable lesson of the Skatalites. 2005 With the ..Don..t.. cry for me.. tour they perform both on the national and international scenes: music festivals in France and Swiss with the American band Groundation; during the Olympic Games in Turin their music opened the welcome party of the Jamaican National Bob Team.
2006 They are busy preparing a new album.

ITALIAN VERSION
1994 a Varese prende forma il suono in levare di Bassistinti, un viaggio appassionato nella musica giamaicana, Il bluebeat londinese e lo ska latin di Buenos Aires, questo e altro ancora, una miscela di ragga, roots, ska 2tone, rock steady e dub. Un viaggio nella cultura e nella musica giamaicana dagli anni 60 ai giorni nostri. Questi in sintesi sono i contenuti di Bassistinti. Nel 1995 Bassistinti si autoproducono un demo d'esordio 6 tracce che già mettono le cose in chiaro: ska in stile 2Tone e ballate vicine a Mano Negra, è invece del 1998 il primo disco della band, si chiama Bassin'core. Prodotto dalla varesina Tube Records , suona come un melting pot in cui comunque le due chiavi di lettura principali sono il reggae e lo ska punk. Nel 1999 partecipano alla compilation internazionale Skanking the scum away della tedesca Mad Butcher distribuita a livello mondiale, ed a Rumori di Fondo della Decibel Rec. È invece del 2000 United Kids la internet compilation di Vitaminic con distribuzione web. Nel 2001 il ritorno all'autoproduzione con un mini LP (Covered Skank) che, come preannuncia il titolo stesso del disco, è una raccolta di cover (comprende tra le altre A Message To You Rudy) rivedute e corrette, come dice il gruppo stesso, in bassistinti style. 2002 Mosquito Latino, uscito per la Alternative Produzioni / Tube Records e distribuito Venus, segna infatti il passaggio da un suono ska-rock-punk a una ricerca di musiche e vibrazioni più vicine alla Giamaica. Mosquito Latino infatti è frutto di un'attenta ricerca a ogni singolo suono, a ogni singolo ritmo. I ritmi latin-ska di Follow Me, lo ska 2tone di Mosquito Latino, le reminiscenze del sound di Buenos Aires, il bluebeat londinese di fine anni settanta (vedi alla voce The Specials). Si può trovare questo e altro ancora in Bassistinti. Già, perché lo stile e riferimenti di Bassistinti sono molteplici, perché, Bassistinti pensano alla musica con in testa tutto quello che è suonato in levare, passando da Dr Ring Ding a Marley, dal rock steady e tutta la produzione anni'60 della scena di Kingston. Sempre del 2002 sono le compilation Italian Ska Invasion 2 della Uaz rec., Rock FM di alternative rec., Rock Sound Speciale Italia distribuita con la celebre rivista e Mad for Ska della Universal, questultima una vera e propria raccolta delle migliori ska band a livello nazionale. Nel 2003 altra turnata di selecta come Skapunka supple rec., La tube Record siamo noi della amata tube, Italian Rude Boys lambrusko rec., Rastaboom della rivista con più vibra Rastasnob, e Eskalibur della pugliese Eska rec. Dieci anni in levare tra Centri Sociali, feste e locali dello Stivale Tricolore. Dieci anni di ska reggae senza compromessi, che li portano a dividere il palco con veri guru del genere come il giamaicano Buju Banton e gli statunitensi New York Ska Jazz Ensamble, o restando in Italia con Giuliano Palma & the Bluebeaters, Roy Paci & Aretuska, Fratelli di Soledad, Banda Bassotti e Persiana Jones. E del giugno 2004 Dont cry for me per Tube Records e Venus distribuzione, dopo 300 live, ultima fatica, con cambiamenti dettati dal cuore e dalla line up nuova di zecca. Mulaska, The Drew e Marcopaglia, da sempre fondamenta della band, sono rimasti. Accanto a loro si sono aggiunti quattro nuovi elementi che per le loro esperienze precedenti e il loro background, hanno sicuramente portato il suono della band verso il jazz. Jazz che incontra la giamaica, dunque, ma non solo. Il disco è un salto indietro di parecchi anni, alla musica degli Skatalites, al reggae giamaicano degli anni 60. Rough, sporco e cool come sarebbe piaciuto ai manipolatori di suoni dello Studio One, Dont Cry For Me è la prima vera e sentita svolta della band, che per l'occasione, si è costruita una badroom per produrre i propri pezzi. Lo stile di Dont cry for me sempre, costantemente, la lezione indimenticabile, degli Skatalites.
