People who make me laugh. And, let's be honest, people who think I'm funny. People who are intelligent without pretention. People who love the Sloop as much as I do, and who understand the power of the Sloopersize/Turkey Sandwich/Seasoned Fries combo. Anthony Bourdain. Right now I'm digging on a strange combination of spare, acoustic-guitar-laden indie rock (i.e. Bright Eyes, "First Day of My Life") and raw 60s soul (i.e. Otis Redding, "I've Been Loving You Too Long"). Also, Elliot Smith. Belle and Sebastian. Pet Shop Boys. The Supremes, and most girl-group music from the 1960s (The Cookies, The Cinderellas, The Toys, etc). Dusty Springfield. Grandaddy. The Beach Boys. The New Pornographers. Morrissey. Built to Spill (but recorded, not live. I can't handle their live, 20-minute guitar-jam-fests. They make me cry, for real, and not in a good way). The Arcade Fire. The Pixies. Francoise Hardy, and French pop in general. Sufjan Stevens. Air. Sigur Ros. Daft Punk. Kanye West. Jay-Z. Journey. George Michael's "Faith" album. I like music that I can sing along with in the car; it's the only thing that makes my commute bearable.
The Royal Tenenbaums. The Graduate. Carrie. The Last American Virgin. Donnie Darko. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Goodfellas. Dr. Strangelove. Blazing Saddles. Crumb. Being John Malkovich. Major League. The Departed.
Top Chef. Frontline. 60 Minutes. The Office (BBC). The Simpsons. The Golden Girls. Arrested Development. Miami Ink. And...okay...I have to admit I am obsessed with shows about teens and their problems. Hence, 90210 (just got the first season on DVD), The O.C., Laguna Beach. I'm not proud.
Do you think anyone ever lists "Mama's Family"?
