About Me

I'm an illustrator.I believe in good design, gravity, and evolution...everything else is up for debate.I really, really love acronyms. You can read about my love for acronyms here.I have the world's worst poker face - meaning that every emotion I feel is expressed instantly - and I can't hide anything. Combine this with my (in)famous brutal honesty and you can always be sure I am saying what I really mean.Additionally: • I think it's really funny to pronounce the word "robot" as "robit". • I like to hold my left hand up to my ear like it's a phone, and then pretend to be talking to enormous land masses ("Hello, Europe??") or intangible concepts ("Hello, Nausea??") • I have spent over 45 minutes trying to successfully pronounce the word "owl" as if it only had one syllable.• On my shelf at work I have a styrofoam cup on which I have written, with Sharpie, "Cricket Trap brand cricket trap". I have used it to trap exactly one cricket.• At age 12 I invented a product called "Instant Water". Ask me to sing you the theme song - you won't regret it!

My Interests

Drawing. Karaoke. Reading. Umeshu. Hamachi nigiri from Maneki. Frozen pizza from Trader Joes. Lemon Drop cupcakes from Cupcake Royale. Napping with the cats, when possible. Collecting. Yellow-green, as a color. 1970s-era bathrooms with brightly colored fixtures. Japanese art and culture. Listening to This American Life. Watching movies while eating popcorn and drinking Red Stripe. Making subtle changes to the grammar and vocabulary on this profile.

I'd like to meet:

People who make me laugh. And, let's be honest, people who think I'm funny. People who are intelligent without pretention. People who love the Sloop as much as I do, and who understand the power of the Sloopersize/Turkey Sandwich/Seasoned Fries combo. Anthony Bourdain. And Jason Bateman.View All Friends | View Blog | Add Comment

Music:

Right now I'm digging on a strange combination of spare, acoustic-guitar-laden indie rock (i.e. Bright Eyes, "First Day of My Life") and raw 60s soul (i.e. Otis Redding, "I've Been Loving You Too Long"). Also, Elliot Smith. Belle and Sebastian. Pet Shop Boys. The Supremes, and most girl-group music from the 1960s (The Cookies, The Cinderellas, The Toys, etc). Dusty Springfield. Grandaddy. The Beach Boys. The New Pornographers. Morrissey. Built to Spill (but recorded, not live. I can't handle their live, 20-minute guitar-jam-fests. They make me cry, for real, and not in a good way). The Arcade Fire. The Pixies. Francoise Hardy, and French pop in general. Sufjan Stevens. Air. Sigur Ros. Daft Punk. Kanye West. Jay-Z. Journey. George Michael's "Faith" album. I like music that I can sing along with in the car; it's the only thing that makes my commute bearable.

Movies:

The Royal Tenenbaums. The Graduate. Carrie. The Last American Virgin. Donnie Darko. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Goodfellas. Dr. Strangelove. Blazing Saddles. Crumb. Being John Malkovich. Major League. The Departed.

Television:

Top Chef. Frontline. 60 Minutes. The Office (BBC). The Simpsons. The Golden Girls. Arrested Development. Miami Ink. And...okay...I have to admit I am obsessed with shows about teens and their problems. Hence, 90210 (just got the first season on DVD), The O.C., Laguna Beach. I'm not proud.
Do you think anyone ever lists "Mama's Family"?

Books:

Catch 22. A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. A Prayer for Owen Meany. The Time Traveler's Wife. Catcher in the Rye. The Virgin Suicides. Acme Novelty Library. Eightball. Anything by the editors of The Onion.

Heroes:

I have trouble differentiating heroes from rivals. Working on it.
