About Me
Polished and sincere, Nijay is a distinctively smooth hiphop & R&B vocalist. The West Harlem native has worke steadily to develop his versatile sound. Influenced by a rich musical tradition, Nijays style has a noticeably New York
feel to it. While harlem has its problems it also has its pride. Growing up on the streets of Sugar Hill, Nijay drew his content from the social realities of his enviorment. He spent the last six years rhyming about life with the Money On Broadway crew. Feeling the need to further his musical progression, he attended the prestigious Fiorello H. LaGuardia HS of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where he learned the basics of becoming a vocalist. As a student at LaGuardia Arts, Nijay had the benifits of formal voice training, while also enjoying a creative and musically experimental atmosphere. Students with different musical taste and talents would come together on behalf of Nijay and create original pieces of classical, jazz, rock and R&B music. In the studio, Nijay would often use his voice to generate a beat. With the help of the ensemble, Nijay's melodies would blossom into full compositions. Having developed his raw talent in the streets and in the classroom, Nijay set out to craft tracks with melodic hooks and honest lyrics. Set to be released in 2007, the City's Child is Nijay's debut effort. A resourceful construction, the record will highlight Nijay's ability to vocally reach out to different audiences. Club ready tracks like,"Get Loose", and "Let Me Hit That",are driven by a contagious chorus and witty phrases. "Baby Your Love, "geared more exclusively to the ladies, is pure R&G off his mixtape . R&G which stands for rythem and gangsta, is the style you get when you combine Nijay and any track. It identifies with young and old men in the streets and still gets its point across to the ladies from a "gangstas" point of veiw. So as far as young girls, young women and woman being the only people interested in Nijay's music ....think again because even the toughest men will find themselves reciting Nijay's lyrics. The City's Child is not just a collection of candid ryhmes, its a statement of commitment. A commitment to truth before image, to music, to combination. Its a refreshing reality check that doesn't take itself to seriously. The album is a collaboration between Nijay and producer Taylormade of OddBall Entertainment . Nijay was introduced to Taylormade by his godmother, opera trained soul songstress Cole, in the Summer of 2004. Since then the two have been spending hours a day in the studio, generating harmonious hiphop and R&G that is adaptable and genuine. As he wraps up production on The City's Child, Nijay will countinue to perform in LosAngeles and New York. In addition to his upcoming album, Nijay will also be a featured artist on the upcomng compilation album Bread Blunts and Broads from producer Taylormade .
