Evoke

Alyx Benham and Sophia Ferrera began singing together at the age of eleven in The Santa Rosa Children's Chorus. Influenced by Sade, Zap Mama, Bjork and Sinead O' Conner, they grew up intrigued by female experimental vocalization and began the acapella trio Copper Wimmin when they were in their late teens. After winning a local singing competition, the trio quickly gained recognition for it's captivating performances, unusual harmonies and poetic lyrics. They won several awards including best vocal group in the NORBAYS, they took home a silver metal in the San Francisco Bay Area Harmony Sweepstakes, and their work earned them the 2006 Isadora Duncan Dance Award for best musical score. Most recently their work was featured on the Showtime series the L Word. Having sung together most of their lives, the music of Evoke reflects the unique friendship between Alyx and Sophia. Their original songs are created in collaboration with musician/producer Kit Walker and have an etheric dreamlike quality that is sensual and mesmerizing. Their voices convey a sweet sadness and authenticity that will take you on an emotional journey. Evoke weaves tribal vocal percussion with appalachian harmonies to create an unusual soundscape. They are a healing force calling for awareness of the self.
