Rod Williams was born into music, with deep musical roots from both sides of his family. Weaned on Bluegrass, Rockabilly and Country music, there were always guitars and fiddles around the kitchen table to the wee hours of the morning and that still continues to this day. As a teen, Rods influences were from bands such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple. By the mid 80's Rod discovered his love for Blues. I would go out every Thursday night to Tucson's Roadhouse for the live jams and was influenced and fascinated by the harmonica playing style of Larry the Bird Mootham, so I signed up for harmonica (or harp as it is known in the blues scene) lessons with Larry. Soon after, Rod was asked to join his first blues/rock band called Get Naked and not long after that, The Broadcast Bluesband was formed with the local Bear Blues til Midnight D.J., Mark Hall from the Bear radio station, on bass and a local guitar slinger named Al Tambay (Lil Als Combo)as well as Matt Sobb (Monkeyjunk) on drums. It was around this time that the nickname The Reverend was handed out by another Ottawa guitar virtuoso named Trevor Finlay. Rod and Al also performed for many years as a Blues duo act while at the same time; Rod was involved in another project with The Soulshakers with more R&B influences. Most recently, Rod was approached by Sean Burke and Ken Hitchmough to sing lead and play harp for a Swingabilly/Blues project, and after review of the material, "KING RATTLER" was born. Check out the King Rattler MySpace page for upcoming shows as well. And, you will still find Rod at the local jams that he loves so well, Irene's Thursday night Blues Jam and Sunday afternoons at The Rainbow Bistro.
