THE LAB

About Me

I'm dying, no filters, no distorsions...
My end, my beginning. How can i delay the end of me?
How can i reverse this countdown?
I walk in fileds of nowhere.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.thelabsound.com
Band Members: Back in 1993, when José Corredera (a neurofisiologist obssesed with sound waves) and Miguel Lázaro (a telecom. and audio engineer obssesed with brain waves) was 13 years old, they formed THE LAB, a creative music project focused on experimenting with electronic music and sound manipulation. Their early infuences were a mix of pioneers like Wendy Carlos, experimentals like John Cage, or more commercial like Jean Michel Jarre or Vangelis.

For several years they have explored the capabilities of electronically generated sound and written numerous tracks for companies such as Coca-Cola and Opel, as well as for radio and television stations, videogames, or artistic performances.

In 1998 they combined their efforts with graphic designer Bernardo Rivalvelarde to produced “Listening to Images”, better known as “Escuchando Imagenes”. Their work was yet to become the first electronic art project to be displayed in Spain and would then go on to be shown in cities such as Barcelona, Mallorca, Paris and Milan as well as be awarded prizes such as the LAUS 99 and MOBIUS INTERNATIONAL 99.

Then THE LAB began working on their second project “HOMODIGITALIS”, a piece which has taken them nearly three years to complete and has seen the collaboration and support of such influential artists as Nacho Duato, artistic director of the Spanish National Ballet.
Homodigitalis has been seen and listened in cities like Madrid, Bilbao, Barcelona, Paris, Milan, Berlin, Mexico or Tokio.

The album edited in 2004 for Europe, with the complete music, has been praise by the critics "...bigger words, it's almost perfect..." (Future Music), and nominated to the Music Awards 2004 in Spain like best album and electronic song (for “Emotions”).

Influences: 70s scifi films ("Soylent Green is people!"), toy pianos and strange sound devices, digital image pioneers (Bill Viola, Nam Jum Peik) and today genius (Chris Cunningham), background noises, our music teachers, so on...
