SICK $TATUS was formed originally in '04 as an alternative to the steadily declining state of mainstream Hip-Hop; not to save it, but to continue and expand on the traditions the creators of OUR culture held true. And as our culture has gone through many changes, we as a crew have done the same; some emcees & affiliates have parted ways, but as of '08 SICK $TATUS is comprised of 5 emcees (Not counting our extended Soul Skool Fam), each with their own distinct style, delivery, and background; ranging from hardcore lyric-driven Hip-Hop, to socially aware raptivism, SICK $TATUS covers all topics and styles. From all parts of the city & state, The Double-S Crew is one of underground Hip-Hop's most talented collectives where young emcees can develop . It's a movement so move with it or move aside. What seperates the SS from our direct competition is our willingness to go above & beyond the current sound and trends which run rampant in our artform; so what you get is an eclectic blend of style, delivery, and subject matter. Hip-Hop has suffered from mediocrity and monotony; what was once an inner-city phenomenon became global which transformed it into a buisness, and like any buisness the bottom dollar is the only priority. What we have been plagued with for a good 7-9 years in rap music are caracitures, emcees that look, sound, and act like a million others with little to differentiate them from one another. Like fast-food, the consumer wants something fast, and familiar; ready for mass-consumption; no matter how unhealthy it may be for your body and mind; this is also the problem with Hip-Hop. We are NOT the industry standard but we are a direct assault on what it is, and a direct RESULT of it as well; we only exist because of the industry. The law of natural group opposition formation would hold that some other group had to exist beside the industry during that same time frame; we are that opposition, the new status... SICK $TATUS.
