About Me
Antanas Gustaitis (born Martynas Kunigelis) comes from a then-underground early nineties punk/indie/party scene of Kaunas city. Instantly seduced by the hissy sound of a Def Leppard tape in his brother's JVC boombox nearly twenty years ago, he's been chasing contemporary melodies, beats and what-not ever since.
The AG alias came to be around 2001, as a pseudonym for publishing Roskilde festival and other event reviews in the modern culture portal Ore.lt . Name of a famous Lithuanian aviator, brutally executed by the Soviet regime, was chosen not only out of respect and admiration for the man's vision and work, but also for the intangible associations induced by the name of the first Lithuanian military aircraft he designed – ANBO, short for Antanas Nori Buti Ore (Antanas Wants To Be Airborne, or Antanas Wants To Be In Ore; one can't help but applaud the man for his postmodern tongue-in-cheekness, coming from a high ranking Lithuanian Air Force officer of the nineteen twenties!). See the connection? Ore.lt, Antanas, Ore? Right! Thought you would :-)
After years of getting wasted in a zillion local raves and parties, watching friends become skilled vinyl spinners, and witnessing inceptions, births and collapses of DJ teams and party labels, AG finally got bored of being on the wrong side of the decks. He recorded a couple of bedroom mixes for his friends at the dawn of 2004, and shortly thereafter joined a Kaunas-brewn gang of debauchers-turned-DJs aptly named Grupe Prostitute .
The tremendous fun and wicked experiences on board GP brought back memories of underground Kaunas rave parties thrown in a basement of the oldest university in Central Europe, a dozen or so years ago, that paved the way for the legendary Pakalne events.
However, as the core of GP moved to Vilnius, so did most of the parties. Before boredom crept in, AG teamed up with a fresh-back-from-London ex-punkrock-band mate mic'Kolia and started a GP spinoff with a cheeky name of Pink Skirts . More dance oriented than the original GP, Pink Skirts still carried the original spirit that instantly resonated with every true raver in sight. Oi!
A surprisingly successful tour of the Lithuanian "west coast" in 2006 encouraged the duo to start a series of monthly events in a cult Kaunas bar called The Blue Orange, or B.O for short. The parties soon developed into sweat-soaked, house-packed, drunk-at-the-decks raves that never stopped on time and kept going with the lights on, until bouncers would cut off the power to the sound system.
A year and some months later Pink Skirts' monthly residency at B.O started losing its momentum. A certain change in the crowd, the deteriorating state of the sound system and DJ gear, poor quality of bookings for the rest of the weekends each month gradually made the atmosphere that once made B.O legendary vanish. After over a dozen of parties, Pink Skirts abandoned the series.
In the mean time, AG began focusing on a solo career as a house music DJ. A few mixes published in a popular dance music culture portal www.djscene.lt caught event promoters' attention and bookings started coming in, slowly but steadily. A couple of years later, having shared the decks with the nearly every local house celebrity at clubs, festivals and events all over the country, mixes played by Lithuanian radio stations, and been interviewed by the www.djscene.lt portal, AG is considered by many to be the Lithuanian deep house authority -- thanks to the weekly (later monthly) podcast called Deep Tuesdays that presents its listeners with a nicely mixed quality selection of recently released deep house tunes.
Don't miss the AG experience -- come to a party and dance your ass off to the quality beats and basslines! If you're a promoter, call +37068669577 for bookings.
