about me...a passionate, smiley (most often), sunshiney songstress (singer - songwriter). I've spent my days growing younger, learning how to play more, dance more, stress less and stop creating problems where there are only solutions !

Born in Germany, raised around the world, now I'm in L.A. (most of the time...ma torno spesso in Italia...spesso e VOLENTIERI:O). My debut album 'Indigo Red' is OUT there - so feel free to go GET one and spread the love ~

here's a real BIO:

Born in Germany, raised in Italy, Amana Melome' grew up exposed to music from around the world. Both grandparents were heavy in the international Jazz scene; her grandfather Jimmy Woode started as the youngest musician in Duke Ellington’s band and toured as one of the golden men of Jazz until his recent passing. “ My grandmother was a jazz vocalist and I remember loving listening to her sing while ironing. By the time I was a teenager I knew so many old jazz songs it surprised even her… I enjoyed them so much, they just stuck” she says.

" I've been fortunate enough to see much of the world, and can't wait to see the rest. The languages came into play because I love to communicate and possibly have an exchange with everyone I encounter" she says humbly, carrying 4 languages plus in her pocket (English, Italian, French and German ). Amana moved back to the States to go to college and made the village in New York City her home for some years as she earned her BA degree at NYU.

"I grew up listening to (and being inspired by) everything under the sun…thanks to my mother; everything from Carmen McRae to Angelique Kidjo, from Manu Chao to Vivaldi, from Bob Marley to Lauren Hill, from Zap Mama to Alliance Ethnique, Eminem to Jack Johnson...so when I create music, my ear jumps all over the place and I'll find myself combining opera with bossa and jazz, but hey, that's who I am..."

Once she completed university, Amana left the east coast to head to Los Angeles, where she joined forces with her producer Saverio ‘Sage’ Principini, with whom she wrote and recorded her debut album ‘Indigo Red’.

Recently Amana was ‘discovered’ also in Europe by the veteran Irma Records indie label, with 22 years of classy releases under their belt world-wide, and it is they who are preparing to release ‘Indigo Red’ throughout Europe and Japan in 2008.

An eclectic combination of Neo-Soul, Jazz, Funk, and world music; her lyrics are vivid and laced with a consciousness and purity that can only add to the music scene today.

Nata in Germania, e cresciuta intorno al mondo, Amana Melomé viene da una famiglia di artisti. Suo nonno Jimmy Woode, contrabbassista, inizia come il musicista più giovane nell’orchestra di Duke Ellington, e continua la sua carriera in tourne’ per il mondo e registra con leggende del calibro di Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday e Dizzie Gillespie fino al suo ultimo respiro. Sua nonna era una cantante Jazz così come sua zia Shawnn Monteiro che e’ tutt’oggi attiva nella scena musicale mondiale.

“Quasi ogni persona nella mia famiglia e’ un’artista, e sin da piccola sono stata incoraggiata ad esprimermi - e’ così che e’ cominciata l’avventura…” dice Melomé ridendo. “Girare il mondo, spesso per tours, e’ sempre stato un modo di vita per tutti noi, e siccome mi piace connettere con la gente, ho iniziato a studiare lingue”. Amana infatti parla quattro lingue (Inglese, Italiano, Francese e Tedesco). Completato il liceo Americano a Firenze Amana torna in America per studiare all’Università’ NYU di New York dove si laurea in Liberal Arts.

La passione per la musica però rimane al centro della vita di Amana che ben presto comincia ad esibirsi in locali Jazz della Grande Mela e dove capisce ben presto che cantare e’ più che un hobby e così comincia a scrivere canzoni. “Sono cresciuta ascoltando di tutto …grazie a mia mamma! Da Carmen McRae ad Angelique Kidjo, da Manu Chao a Vivaldi, da Bob Marley a Zap Mama, e poi i dischi dei Nonni…quindi quando scrivo, l’immaginazione vola dappertutto e mi trovo involontariamente a fondere diversi generi”
Così finita l’università’ Amana lascia la costa est per la California, dove oltre a ricongiungersi con l’amatissima mamma incontra Saverio “Sage” Principini, un produttore italiano già da moltissimi anni attivo nella scena musicale di Los Angeles e responsabile delle registrazioni californiane dei dischi di cantanti del livello di Vasco Rossi, Laura Pausini ed Eros Ramazzotti. Così, immediatamente i due cominciano a scrivere e a registrare musica e a un anno di distanza completano INDIGO RED, il primo CD di Amana Melomé.

Presto Amana viene “scoperta” anche in Europa dalla veterana etichetta indipendente IRMA Records gia’ responsabile di 22 anni di prodotti di classe in Europa e Giappone, e proprio con la Irma e’ in preparazione il lancio di INDIGO RED per i suddetti territori.

La musica, un armonioso intreccio di stili, dal Neo-Soul al Funk, dal Jazz alla Bossa al Reggae. I suoi testi, vivaci, tinti da ricerca di consapevolezza e una purezza che sicuramente porterà un raggio di sole nella spesso troppo cupa scena musicale di oggi. Questo più che un disco e’ un viaggio, quindi preparatevi a volare intorno al mondo e anche un po’ …nelle galassie con questa stella nascente!
