About Me

This tale begins in 1994 when Josh Hunter and Tom Shaughnessy broke away from the infamous Chicago band Frumunda to play together as mudmen. This first incarnation of mudmen (joined by drummer Larry Flanagan) was short-lived, as the band added Carl Smith and Ken Tomko and was re-christened Sid Shivers. Sid Shivers played in several Chicago clubs, including Thurston's, The Beat Kitchen, and Cleo's.After Sid broke up in 1995, Josh and Tom joined forces with Larry Flanagan and brought mudmen back to life. In 1997, Josh left Chicago and moved to Baltimore and then on to Antwerpen, Belgium. While in Belgium, Josh and friend Bart van de Lisdonk played together as Bob Hur -- these jams laid the foundation for what is being played today. In 2001, Josh returned from Belgium and relocated to Northwest Indiana. Soon after, he, along with Tom and drummer Stephen Holloway, began the third incarnation of mudmen. Drawing their inspiration from the dunes of Northwest Indiana and heavily influenced by bands such as Kyuss, Pink Floyd, Natas, Dozer, Colour Haze and other stoner/desert rock bands, mudmen developed a sound best described as "dunerock." Mudmen's music is loose, spontaneous, and full of grooved and fuzzed-out psychedelic jams.In 2003, mudmen released their first self produced cd, "taint misbehaven". But it was not until early 2004, when they were joined by new drummer Rick Butler and released their ep "dunewalker", that the dunerock sound became fully developed.mudmen is:Joshua Hunter - guitar and vocals Tommy Shaughnessy - bass and vocals Rick Butler - drumsSo with all this said. . . kick back, relax and "TUNE TO THE DUNE"
