I got my first set of decks in November 2003. These were Gemini Belt Drives, which I used to practice .. a couple of months of practising I sent a demo tape to a local promoter named Dave On-It for a small event called Elavation based in my hometown. Dave gave me the chance to play a half an hour set, half way through the night before a DJ set from Mc Smiley so the pressure was on me to do well. This set went really well for me and I got offered a residency at Elavation. This gave me a lot more exposure to a crowd as these were monthly events. As I was now playing to a crowd, I decided to upgrade my personal decks and got a pair of second hand Technics 1210 MKII’s. I quickly adapted to these new decks and my skills progressed rapidly.
While attending Dark NRG in Bristol, Mc Smiley approached me and asked me to play in the up & coming oldskool room at Planet Hardcore in Bristol. I knew knew this was a great chance to show people what I could do. After this experience, I eagerly wanted to advance as a DJ so I began looking for more bookings. Knowing of the UKScene and how they supported the up & comings, I joined up to their website and sent the promoters a demo CD. The UKScene then contacted me asking to play in the room they were hosting at Total Bedlam in Long Eaton. I gladly accepted the offer and got asked to play at the next UKScene room held at Total Bedlam a couple months later and also a room they hosted at Armageddon in Manchester.
With 2004 drawing to an end, I had played all over the country, from Bristol, to Preston and all this within my first year of Dj’ing.
At the end of 2004 came my first high achievement as a DJ, a booking at Futervibe Vs Vibealite NYE 04/05 playing an Oldskool set in the Rewind room. This was a b2b set with Dave On-It, but this booking showed how well I had progressed over my first year of Dj’ing.
In 2005, through playing at Total Bedlam I met Keyes, and after Liquid Rush and Total Beldam came to a halt, he decided to keep a night going in Nott’s. This is when "PureBeats" was born. Keyes made me resident DJ for the night and the idea was thought up of doing our sets together as a DJ/MC partnership. Every month, we did our sets together and this slowly started to build up a local folllowing.
2006 drew to an end, and we decided that if we were going to progress further as a partnership, we needed to stand out from the crowd and play our own material. The start of 2007 saw us busy in the studio with DJ Sparky producing our own style of tracks individually, and together.
Our first booking as a duo came in March 2007 at Hardcore Hysteria in London. This was also my first ever gig in London, so didn't know what to expect. We played our set of 100% exclusive material to a neutral crowd and they loved it! This followed up with a set 2 weeks later at Ravers Reunited, our first big event. Once again we played all our own material with some 100% exclusive bits just for that rave, the dance floor was rammed the response was amazing. I have never enjoyed a set more than that one. It was an amazing feeling!
Following up these nights, we have also had bookings together at Forever Hardcore, Who's Hardcore, Reaction, Total Eclipse, Hi Skool (HTID Afterparty), Hardcore Is The Future, and under 18's events at JADE, and Underground Dance Factory.
The rest, as they say .... is history!
