Technically Men

Big Man for hire

About Me

“Why does your music go nick, nick, nick when ours goes Boom Boom Boom?” Technically Men's music has been described as the beats of Lil' Jon set to the voodoo of Dr John. Uncompromising lyrics set to harsh, dark beats, nevertheless, live the band create one hell of a party. Tracks like “Slack Fucker” are poised to set the cat right amongst the pigeons of the Hoxton scene which was so brilliantly depicted on Channel 4’s Nathan Barley. It’s two and a half minutes of bile aimed straight to the heart of the “three haircut wearing, BMX riding, skinny latte cappuccino buying” inhabitants of the Shoreditch scene. The band was originally conceived as a side project of the critically acclaimed Lo Fidelity Allstars, but what started as a series of limited releases under a pseudonym soon became a fully fledged album project. Technically Men’s album is a brilliantly observed critique of the current music scene. “The Questions” lists all the things that frustrated fans of genuinely innovative music have been asking but no-one has yet had the nerve or the wit to put into print so succinctly “Is now the best time ever to be skinny and white? With tight trousers and the right haircut you can sell any old shite”With so many bands doing “ironic” covers of past hits, Technically Men have raised the bar with their cover of Alexander O’Neil’s classic hit “Criticise”. Turning an R&B classic into a booze fuelled rant at a disgruntled partner it’s another great example of their originality and lyrical wit.“Hairy Baby” and “Big Man” are cleverly aimed barbs at the laziness and lack of integrity that is a staple of the music business these days whilst at the same time being huge live anthems and crowd pleasers at gigs.“My Favourite Year” is a twisted album track which conjures up images of the films of Shane Meadows and TV shows like Shameless. The bands ace in the hole is the classic pop sound of hit single in waiting “I’m Your Girl”. The verses, a brutal vocal delivery of a man’s fear of his bitterness causing his girl to say ““Fuck It I want him instead” set to a chorus of pure Motown Soul it’s a modern day love song in the shape of a classic AM Radio hit.Recent gigs in London and Brighton at the likes of Death Disco, The Concorde, The Elbow Rooms, The Dirty South and The Freebutt have led to a slew of more bookings and the band selling out the 100 7” copies they had pressed up of “Slack Fucker” to eager punters.
