What do you say about a band like MachineGunKelly? They could be a band whose songs consist of endless, tiring breakdowns, or even your average combed-over, ear lobe-stretching, angst-ridden ensemble whining about a middle-school "relationship" that went wrong. But they're not. MGK has made it a point to stick to their roots. They take their audience back to a time when thrash reigned supreme, when raw punk-influenced energy coupled with a impressive sense of musicianship crossed borders in the world of underground music. It's true these guys can play. Between the lightning speed shredding and blasting, typical of many extreme bands, they still find it important to incorporate diversity into their music. They're are subtle (and not-so-subtle) hints of various extreme styles at work here, from Grind to Sludge, and Gothenburg-influenced melodic passages, to sounds that would make the most proficient mosher squeal in delight. This is a fresh breath of air in a world of imitation. This is a new wave of high-energy metal. This is Machine Gun Kelly, and they've succeeded in getting it wet. -B.R. Hodgins (The Metal Informer).
