OXFORD UNITED FC

About Me

Oxford United FC (previously Headington United FC), first entered the English league in 1962. From then, they enjoyed a steady rise throughout the seventies and eighties, finally reaching the top-flight of English football (the old Div.1), through 2 consecutive championships (still the only club to achieve this). Whilst playing top-flight football, OUFC reached the League Cup Final in 1986. Oxford ran out 3-0 winners against a much fancied QPR team. Oxford was a club that was a victim of bad management, and was always a club that had to sell their good players in order to generate abit of money. This eventually took its toll on the club, and in 1987 the club got relegated from top-flight football after 3 years. Years passed with Oxford lingering in the 2nd div. They soon got relegated again, and it looked like Oxford were never going to be the club they once were. In 1995, Oxford acheived promotion to League 1 (now The Championship), but some bad years were soon to follow. Money problems soon got the better of OUFC and they were days from extinction. A man called Firoz Kassam stepped in to help. With Oxford facing relegation from League 2, Mr Kassam promised to take OUFC on a journey, he promised to finish the new stadium (which he did). With Oxford now in the basement league of English football, and a brand new stadium, fans started to believe that this man could turn the club around again. 5 years later, and several managers later, OUFC were in deep trouble in the bootom division. After protests at the ground Mr Kassam decided to step down as chairman. In came the new Chairman.... Nick Merry! And with him he brought The Bald Eagle, Jim Smith (the man who took us to the top-flight). With only a handful of games remaining of the season, Jim and Nick were unable to prevent OUFC dropping out of the Football League for the first time in the clubs history. Netherless, OUFC now has a Chairman and Manager who love the club and have worked very hard to get the club back where they belong. It seems to be paying off, as OUFC are riding high in the Nationwide Conference and look in very good shape to return to the Football League. COOOOOMMMEEEEE OOOOOONNNNN YOOOOOOOUUUU YEEEEELLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWSSSS!!!
