These Songs Make Me Smile
in addition to listening to music quite a lot, i love to sing and play guitar. i used to play piano, but let's not talk about that. my tastes are very eclectic; i basically like anything with musicality and ingenuity (which obviously excludes gangster rap and at least half of the country music out there). here is some stuff i love or have loved in the past (forgive me if i repeat myself), not in any particular order: project 86, mewithoutYou, the deftones, saliva, the clash, cold, revis, culture, bon iver, evanescence, the mars volta, mae, bad religion, rage against the machine, alison krauss, pedro the lion, waterdeep, POD, indigo girls, anberlin, explosions in the sky, blesk, feist, travis, chevelle, 311, watashi wa, bush, timbaland, ben harper, strung out, eluvium, iron & wine, the chariot, norah jones, a fine frenzy, ladysmith black mambazo, CocoRosie, bob marley, morten lauridsen, the innocence mission, eva cassidy, dixie chicks, pete yorn, stone temple pilots, rogue wave, band of horses, a fine frenzy, sarah vaughan, phil wickham, the cranberries, incubus, the shins, hughes & wagner, lagwagon, the strokes, chan marshall (a.k.a. cat power), shane & shane, jeremy enigk, my morning jacket, the hives, further seems forever, imogen heap, jack johnson, shawn mcdonald, keane, sigur ros, the weepies, pressure 4-5, the ataris, muse, joshua radin, sara tavares, the ramones, switchfoot, john mayer, radiohead, the yeah yeah yeahs, ginny owens, maire brennan, gillian welch, damien rice, briertone, killswitch engage, frou frou, jeremy camp, dawn landes, the black eyed peas, avenged sevenfold, U2, the gipsy kings, ani difranco, nick drake, staind, disturbed, tori amos, loreena mckennit, MxPx, over the rhine, the bravery, cake, neko case, rita springer, ravi shankar, tears for fears, stavesacre, alicia keys, demon hunter, nickel creek, coldplay, godsmack, this will destroy you, a perfect circle, eluvium, jimmy eat world, dead can dance, snow patrol, denison witmer, the innocence mission, dave barnes, the dillinger escape plan, sia, ben folds, emmylou harris, the burn uk band, woven hand/16 horsepower/david eugene edwards, ryan adams, and the list goes on....
some of my favorites include: high fidelity, monsoon wedding, pirates, water, amelie, secret of roan inish, brokedown palace, man on fire, bridget jones, pillow talk, to end all wars, love actually, sleepy hollow, LOTR.
only keep one around to watch movies. although i just recently watched all 3 first seasons of the office on dvd. thanks, jen, for corrupting my brain and wasting my precious time.
the Bible, velvet elvis and sex god (rob bell), irresistible revolution (a must-read),the atonement child, blue like jazz, chasing the dragon, captivating (although i'm generally not a john eldredge fan), always enough (by heidi baker), the book of 7 truths, anything by andrew schwab, elisabeth elliot, henri nouwen, or anthony bourdain (doesn't get much better than food, travel, and cussing combined). currently i am reading walking on water: reflections on faith and art, pagan christianity:exploring the roots of our church practices" by frank viola and george barna, and midnight's children.
