George and the G-Men

About Me

George and the G-Men was formed in 1997 by Birmingham area singer/songwriter, George Griffin. The band was nominated for Best Blues Band at the Birmingham Area Music Awards in 1998. That same year the band released their first CD, "Caught Between the Sun and the Moon" containing all original material and covering several different genres of music. The CD sold well and got high critical praise. In 2000 the original line-up went their separate ways and Griffin reformed with a different group of G-Men. In 2001 the new George and the G-Men were signed to play the Blues & BBQ Concert Series playing at the Oak Mountain Ampitheatre. They played the next leg of the tour in Destin Florida. George and the G-Men spent the next two years playing all over Alabama and the South East averaging 100 shows a year. The band kept on experimenting with different types of music and added a violin player and a conga player. In 2003 the band released their second CD, "22nd Street Live", a live CD recorded in 2002 at the 22nd Street Jazz Cafe in Birmingham. In late 2005 Griffin was approached to reunite the band for the opening of a new club and George and the G-Men played for "one last show". However, that "one last show" gave them the urge to play some more. The band is very much revitalized and plays an eclectic mix of blues, rock, soul, and funk. They also continue playing their original songs during their show.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: George Griffin - guitar, keyboards, and vocals; Gary Duncan - bass; Kreg Worthington - drums; Jason Bradley - alto and soprano sax; Andrew Brasfield - harmonica
Influences: Allman Brothers, The Black Crowes, Doobie Brothers. Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Howlin' Wolf, Bill Withers (but also pretty much anything we ever have heard that sounds good)
Sounds Like: Not to sound flip or anything, but we sound like George and the G-Men. We have a pretty unique sound and we play a pretty eclectic mix of songs. We have been compared to the Allman Brothers and SRV, but a good bit of our originals are more accoustic. We also blaze up some funk and soul. You listen and tell us what you think.
Record Label: Unsigned
