About Me

Minneapolis based singer-songwriter Troy Russel plays original and cover songs in the folk/blues/country styles. In January 2006, Troy’s first CD, an 8 song EP titled Blown’ Down the Road was released featuring traditional American roots tunes including "Sitting On Top Of The World", "Salty Dog", and "Worried Man Blues". Blowin’ Down the Road also included one original song by Troy, an Iraq War protest song called "Told My Commander". In January 2007, Sinner Man Blues a 10 song EP was released featuring traditional American blues including: "Big Road Blues", "Step It Up And Go", and "Amazing Grace". The new CD also includes cover songs by Hank Williams and Jimmie Rodgers. Troy began the Blowin’ Down the Road Open Stage Tour in January 2006, playing in the Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago, Rockford, Dubuque, Saint Paul, and Minneapolis metro areas. The open stage tour continued until December 2007. Troy hosts a music and poetry open mic in Minneapolis at Anodyne Coffeehouse the first Friday each month.
