About Me

Vaughan Mason has been in the music business for 43 years. He started playing guitar when the Beatles hit the scene in 1963/64. He got hooked on funk music when he heard James Brown and Dyke and the Blazers. Attended Howard University in the fall of 1969 where he majored in estrogen chasing, motorcycle riding and Angel Dust smoking. He took up managing groups Smoke, T and John and then a group called the 21st Century, out of Harrisburg, Pa. The 21st Century opened up for all the big acts like Earth, Wind and Fire and B.T. Express when they came through Harrisburg. B.T. Express manager, King Davis picked Vaughan up as their soundman and sound company when they played Harrisburg with their Do It Til Your Satisfied hit. Vaughan traveled all over the US. and the World with B.T. Express and was eventually put in their act. He drew the attention of Columbia Records to B.T. Express when they played the Nassau Coliseum and they signed with Columbia Records. In 1979 Vaughan wrote, engineered, produced and shopped the deal for his classic song Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll. Vaughan is credited with creating the Bounce sound and inspired the group Zapp to make their song More Bounce to the Ounce. Vaughan went on a nationwide tour opening up for Prince and Rick James. Heavy D sampled Vaughans song to make Black Coffee; Shabba Ranks used the song to make the title sound track for the movie The Adams Family. Bow Wow used Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll for his 2006 movie Roll Bounce. 1984 Vaughan became an in house recording engineer for Power Play studios in Long Island City, NY. Engineering for Tuff City Records and working with Marley Marl and Mr. Magic on the recording of the song by Roxanne Shantee, and a host of other NY acts. 1985 Vaughan signed with Salsoul Records and teamed up with Butch Deyo. 1987 Vaughan Mason started Grove Street Records out of East Orange, NJ. and released the 12 dance hits -Let the Music Move You, Jack the Groove and Break 4 Luv. Break 4 Luv, released as Raze (should have put the record out under my name. Stupid mistake) in 1989, got picked up by Columbia Records and is now in the Sony Play Station game Grand Theft Auto, San Andreas. Lil Kim sampled Break 4 Luv for her Notorious Kim album, for the song she called Right Now. Most of his dance records were picked up by Champion Records out of England, by Paul Oakenfold. In 1994 he produced, engineered and managed Doug Lazy who Vaughan signed to a $1,300,000.00 deal with Atlantic records along with his other acts H.B.O. and Pam Shelby. 1998 he released the song Bass Power on his Grove Street Record label and Atlantic records picked it up. April of 2002, Vaughan produced an exercise video for Charles Chizel It Harris, and the video was rated ..3 in Muscle & Fitness (Hers) magazine (page 90).To this day Vaughan is producing music and producing videos out of his studios in Owings Mills, Md.
