..D’ jo also known as Derrick Smith, w was born on the Southwest side of Houston, “Mo City†on August 20th, 1987...
Everyone around D’ Jo knew that one day he would be a singer as he started singing the first day he was able to talk, at the age of 2. D’ Jo, the lead singer of Xquizite, has always been the most outspoken wherever he goes.
D’ Jo first started performing when he was 13 as a freshman in high school. Before then, D’ Jo grew up singing in the youth church choir leading the others with strength and passion. His natural talent to write started with an RnB song he wrote in kindergarten, to one of his child hood crushes. While D’ Jo’s personality displays that he is care free and fun, he is also always deep thought. D’ Jo has become the primary chorus writers of Xquizite and always leads Xquizite’s music to another level. He tries to push it to the limit in a way that their listeners would never imagine. “When I think about life, I think about it in a melody.†states D’ Jo. Some of his influences include classics like Michael Jackson, Jagged Edge and R.I.P. to Dino of H-town.
D’Jo also strengthened his musical abilities by participating in his high school band with much dedication. He then furthered his musical career in 2005 in college at the University of Houston where a he joined his first RnB group of 4 called 577, which P-Scott (Xquizite member) was also a member of. When singing in the group 577 D’ Jo assisted with writing and performing original RnB which became well known in the streets of Houston. A short time later D’ Jo met Tae D and they began putting the group Xquizite together with. For the last few years D’ Jo has been concentrating on building his relationship with his brothers of Xquizite and a strong career with Xquizite.
D’ Jo also enjoys playing basketball, working out, trying new things, dancing, and traveling. He is always looking for new ways to excite and expand his knowledge. Known as the “goofy†member of Xquizite, D’ Jo will always be the first to speak up out loud. Look out for D’ Jo when Xquizite comes through as you will never be able to miss him.
Open and animated best describes LeChristopher M. Vanderpool, AKA Nova. Born on August 6th, 1985, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Nova remembers humming tunes before he could speak.
Being the sweet soprano of Xquizite, Nova accents every harmony with a crisp tune. Singing runs in his family and Nova grew up listening to his grandmother “sing like an angelâ€. “Her voice was angelic and she would always tell me I sang better than she could. I really admired her voice, so to hear that from her was truly inspiring.†Some of Nova’s influences include Usher, Beyonce, H-Town.
Nova began writing in middle school. It started with poetry and then developed into songwriting shortly after. One of his most memorable performances was a seventh grade talent show where he dressed in a suit with no shirt on and sang “1 fan†by “Ginuwine.†He won first place.
Things haven’t always gone well for Nova growing up. When he was 14 years old, he lost everything in a fire. “I had nothing but the clothes on my back,†he reminisces. As if that wasn’t enough, the New Orleans native later became a victim of Hurricane Katrina which again forced him to start over and rapidly brought him to Dallas, TX. Even after enduring so much, Nova has been able to take life’s tragedies and use them as lessons. “It made me realize life was serious. I never take something for granted because I never know when I might lose it. Everything is a gift… Music, life, everything.†He states.
When Nova isn’t singing he enjoys life’s simple pleasures, family being a big priority. He also enjoys movies, football, many other common past times. Nova accredits his success to God and his mother who single handedly raised him and encourages all single parents to never give up.
Tae-D born on December 6th, 1986, as Billy Weems Jr. grew up in the small town of Grand Prairie, TX. From the beginning, it was obvious that he was a natural performer.
Tae-D grew up loving the soulful music of the 70s and 80s but soon grew a love for hip hop. His was influenced by artist such as Michael Jackson, Usher, Nsync, Jagged Edge, and Boys II Men. As a child, he was heavily involved in the church choir. Although he played sports his interest always returned to music. While in high school, Tae-D became involved in the step team and soon became the captain which gave him the opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of people giving him a taste of the spotlight. After being on stage and feeling the reaction of the crowd, he knew then that he wanted to be an entertainer for the rest of his life. One of his fellow step team members had a home studio where he first got the feel of being in a recording studio.
Unfortunately, his friend needed to focus more on his career which stifled Tae-D’s creativity.
With no equipment, no money for studio time and no way to make his music Tae D realized that starting out on his own was not easy. Tae-D and his longtime girlfriend were blessed with their first child, Tasia Deshae Weems. Now being a parent he realized that he would have to do whatever he needed to do to fulfill his dreams. Tae-D began to research everything that he could to find to find out what he would need to do to make his music. He downloaded free recording and production software and began learning to produce and make beats for his self. Making his first beat on Fruity Loops he began to develop his own sound. Over time he began testing out recording strategies. His sister saw his passion for music and she gave him a book on sound engineering which helped him to master and engineer his own music. He was now on his path to a new beginning but he was missing just one thing, a stage name. He looked back and thought of everything he had gone through and all the changes in his life that had recently occurred in his life. When his daughter was born it had started his new beginning so the name just made sense, Tae-D standing for Tasia Deshae. Tae-D is a young, creative artist with a pop and R&B flare. His hip and energetic attitude is a firecracker waiting to be lit. He is a crooner at heart but can get krunk with the best of them.
Prescott Dewayne Nunley AKA P-Scott was born on May 1st, 1986 on the West Side of Houston, North Shore. P-Scott, known as the relaxed-suave member of Xquizite grew up enduring trials that have contributed to his attitude of perseverance.
Having to step up and be a leader for his family at a young age, P-Scott definitely is a strong man that always strives to stand behind the people he loves and what’s right. As the bass tenor voice of the group, P-Scott is definitely the voice which completes and fills the “Xquizite†sound of harmony that projects to their listeners.
For as long as he can remember, he has felt connected to music. Some of his favorite RnB icons growing up include Jagged Edge, Dru Hill, New Edition, Isley Brothers, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Neyo. P-Scott has been singing melodies since the age of 5. He has been performing in the school singing clubs, choirs, and bands since middle school. He has a special musical love for the instruments he played in the band which include the trumpet, trombone, French horn and tuba. In addition, he plays the piano.
P-Scott also attended the University of Houston where he participated wholeheartedly in step teams and dance teams. When watching Xquizite perform you can definitely see the passion in his steps and moves. In addition to being very active in school musical activities, he joined the group 577 which is where he met D’ Jo. He was accepted into University of Houston with honors and continued on to be one of the top students in his class. P-Scott has always been dedicated to being a part of an RnB group which could stand the test of times. In 2007, D’ Jo introduced P-Scott to the two other group members of Xquizite and requested that he audition for the group. After working with Xquizite remotely from Houston while attending school, he decided that he was getting serious and decided to pack up everything and move to Dallas, TX where he now resides.
P-Scott, the relaxed member of the group can be found kicking back and enjoying a movie or participating in activities in soothing atmospheres. A glass of wine some candles, and John Legend… that’s P-Scott. In addition, he enjoys keeping his body fit, playing basketball, drawing, and writing poems and songs.
