Stemming from across the wetlands of Narobi, to the bussling city of
Bute Montana; we present Kaplutis. Kaplutis, named after an obscure Brady Bunch reference, was formed in 2006 by three talented and accomplished Michigan musicians. The three have a long history together, dating back to their days at Lansing Sexton High School, and on into their musical studies at Central Michigan University. Having mutual admiration for one another, the three united; bound and determined to play something different and original. The instrumentation; electric bass, drums, alto sax, and the occasional bass clarinet, gives these three the platform to explore many rhythmic and melodic possibilities. While Kaplutis plays mostly original compositions, it is not uncommon for the trio to re-tool an old rock classic or a traditional children’s song. Having influences such as Happy Apple, Fly, John Coltrane Quartet, Elvin Jones Trio, Sade, Pat Martino and Medeski, Martin and Wood, their sound is fresh and truly unique.
