Daniel, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, grew up in a musical family and started music lessons at the age of seven. Soon after he took to Jazz music and wanted to learn to play drums. He joined the Amsterdam Music School Bigband directed by trumpetter Frank Grasso and soon started playing with bands. In 1984 he 'accidentally' bought a record called 'Indestructible' by Ray Barretto, started a 'love affair' with Salsa and devoted all his musical energy to studying and playing just that. In 1992 he attended the Rotterdam Conservatory where he studied with Lucas van Merwijk and Martin Verdonck and he has now been playing Salsa and Latin Jazz as a free-lance percussionist, traveling with a great variety of musicians and bands, for the past 17 years. He has recently started to sing as well and is currently recording a CD as a singer with the help of percussionist/producer Gerardo Rosales which should be launched soon.He has played and/or sung with (alphabetical order) Alberto Caicedo (La Voz de Colombia), Azucaraba, Bigband Beeg, Candy Dulfer, Charanga La Crisis, Chris Hinze, Deborah Carter, Delia Gonzalez y su Tumbao, Descarga Latina, Eddie Veldman, Edy Martinez, Enrique Firpi, Eric Calmes, Felipe 'Mandingo' Rengifo, Ferial Karamat Ali, Gerardo Rosales y su Trabucombo, Gerardo Rosales and 'Our Latin Groove', Javier Plaza y Orquesta Son Risa, Nicky Marrero, Pauliina May, Peter van Marle, Puerto Cha Cha, Raquel y su Ritmo Tropical, Ritmica 93, Rumbatá, Salsabor, Samba Salad, Santanico, Saoco, Segundo Rosero, Seis Del Son, Tamicos and the Toro Ensamble.
