About Me

Organic Cultivation Records is an independent music label that specializes in hip hop, but is open to welcome artists of any musical style as long as they are committed to innovating, not duplicating. OCR was started in the summer of 2006 by Genghis Ganj and Hemphyzema, but the roots of the label can be traced back to 2000. Genghis Ganj, who was rhyming under the names Snokondo and MC Narcoleptic at the time, began freestyling with some homies while extremely wasted. Ganj's partners in rhyme were Keif Kush, who rhymed as Smokestack, and J-Dubz. The three mc's combined their distinct styles and formed a group named Suburban Homicide. Although Suburban Homicide never released an album (a punk band from Pennsylvania already had the name), they wrote some good songs despite the lack of experience. Few people actually know that Genghis Ganj's song on "Threat to All" E.P. "Chronic Phonics", was actually one of the first songs Suburban Homicide ever wrote, in early 2000. Suburban Homicide officially disbanded around 2002-2003, due to Smokestacks lack of interest in pursuing a career in music and J-Dubz enrolling in the United States Army to serve our country overseas in Iraq. Genghis kept rhyming though, and began to fine tune his songwriting skills and stage presence. Shortly after Suburban Homicide disbanded, Ganj met Ervlike Clockwork and Epic Delusions through a mutual friend that he worked with. In November 2005, Genghis Ganj released his demo, entitled "Death of a Demo" E.P. In January 2006 Genghis hit the local scene hard, and rhymed everywhere and anywhere he could. Throughout the course of the year, Ganj met many mc's who helped him with production, and his new found friendships helped jumpstart the writing process for Genghis Ganj's new cd, "Threat to All" E.P. Organic Cultivation Records originally was called DNA Records (Detroit Noise Associates), but there was already a techno label called DNA Records. The main goal Genghis Ganj, Hemphyzema, and all the OCR artists have is to change the way people see hip hop--to create the most passionate, creative, and revolutionary music possible.
