THE FOLLOWING COULD BE MISUNDERSTOOD AS RATHER PRETENTIOUS, SO HERE'S THE DISCLAIMER: THIS WAS TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM THE "ABOUT THE AUTHOR" SECTION IN MY BOOK.----------------------Rabiyah A. Karim-Kincey, M.A. also known as Sis. Rah is a native of Compton, CA, presently residing in Atlanta, GA. She currently hosts ORGANIZED FUSION ON WRFG 89.3 FM-Atlanta (stream @ www.wrfg.org) every Wednesday morning from 10am-12pm(ET), as part of the weekly SOUL RHAPSODY strip. Rah also teaches Speech Communications, and Hip Hop as Rhetoric at Clark Atlanta University . Her profession by trade is Radio Broadcasting and her pastime is spoken word poetry and album collecting.------------------------------ She was brought up in an environment that revered the spoken word. Her father a poet and her grandfather a Baptist Minister, she was always surrounded by The Word. Also, growing up in a musical family - her mother and father musicians, and aunts and uncles vocalists/musicians - Rabiyah displayed an exceptional ear for music. Her love for Hip Hop is an obvious hybrid of her strongest influences.-------------------- Rabiyah received her BFA in Theatre Arts with a minor in Radio/TV/Film from Howard University. She immediately continued her education in Howard's Human Communication Studies Graduate Program. Her major being Rhetoric and Intercultural Communications, early on in her graduate studies she knew there had to be a significant study of the Afrikan-centered dialogue found in Hip Hop. She set out to articulate the rhetorical significance and properties of Hip Hop Culture. In May of 2000 she received her Master of Arts degree, with her thesis being "The Rhetoric of Hip Hop Culture, Through Its Element of Hip Hop Music."------------------------------ After working several years in the Radio industry, the desire to encourage artists to "use their words" so to speak, grew stronger and stronger. Knowing that she could not sit on her heart's desire to aid in restoring some level of integrity to Hip Hop music, she decided it was time to put her thesis into book form. After dealing with apprehensions of the books acceptance (it's not a quick read novel, and her intellectual maturity has developed since the thesis was written), she realized what was articulated in her thesis study was important, worthy, and needed to be presented on a larger scale. Thus, she began the journey of self-publishing.------------------------------ Rabiyah has started on the path to establishing a reputation as a respected Hip Hop advocate/activist, lecturer, and consultant. She hopes this book project will further that reputation. She brings the worlds of academia and culture to a common ground in the study of Hip Hop Culture, with the hopes of using Hip Hop as a vehicle to mobilize and persuade Afrikan peoples into taking action in their lives, communities, and the World.
