Dwight Ian Pereira - Malaysian-born and Singaporean-bred, now lives in Sheffield.
In 1996, Dwight won a SONY-sponsored trip to New York to watch the King of Pop, Michael Jackson in concert, with a back-stage pass. It would have been the defining moment of his life - if the concert hadn't been cancelled at the last minute.
In February 1999, he released his first solo, independant album in Singapore, titled In Black & White. The country's premier rock music magazine - BigO, reviewed him as a musician who "brought a breath of fresh air into the local scene, demonstrating a facility for melody that is sorely missed in many local songwriters. And he has the vocal ability to bring out the best out of his melodies."
In 2002, Dwight released the album, Sleeptalking, under the Fierce Rabbit Records label. The Singapore Composers & Authors Society described him as "a singer/songwriter whose brand of honest, soulful music and refreshing vocals, fuses varying hues of country, pop and R&B." The Straits Times called the album a blend of "poignant lyrics with subtle melodies," while The New Paper commented on the album being a "mix of pop and R&B blending smoothly with Dwight's honey-kissed vocals." BigO commented that "sophomore albums are a rarity in the Singapore music scene so Dwight Pereira's new effort is certainly one to take note off. Pereira fancies himself a serious singer-songwriter-poet and most of this competent album bears that out. The music is sophisticated and slick with production values to match."
Over the past few years, while re-settling across the world from Singapore to the UK and academic studies, Dwight's had the pleasure of singing in 2 rock bands - The Straits of Sound in Singapore, and iMmigrant in Liverpool. Both experiences saw him being exposed to and working together with amazingly talented musicians.
Currently based in Sheffield, he has been enjoying performing solo at The Nottingham House Bar, The Green Room, The Red House, The Grapes, The Showroom, Coffee Revolution, etc. He is busy working on new material now for a 3rd album he hopes to release sometime in 2008.
