Gracing the Stage

About Me

Gracing the Stage began as a weekly emailed update,a concise (not comprehensive) overview of Toronto's theatre, dance, comedy, film, and music scenes. It has now evolved into a website, www.gracingthestage.ca, with daily posts, an event calendar, and much much more. The website, and the accompanying update, is restricted to events accessible by TTC public transit, and to live performances or screenings (no classes, auditions, or other arts-related announcements are included). The majority of members on the website's mailing list, 1,000 strong and growing, are performers and arts workers, but membership is open to anyone interested in the performing arts in Toronto; email [email protected] to be added to the list. Members include nominees and winners of Junos, Geminis, Doras, and Governor-General awards, and many other notable persons in the arts in Toronto.Members will receive the update every Friday. The website, and accompanying update, exists in part to encourage performing artists to support each others creative endeavors; if we don't, how can we expect a personally uninvolved audience base to? Draw performers from different scenes together, and audiences will increase accordingly. Also, seeing other artist's work fuels our own creative fires.Written with cash-strapped artists & students in mind, the update focuses on PWYC and affordable shows. It's a myth that it's expensive to experience live performance. Seeing every night's pick for a week is often less than a week's worth of a digital cable package! So get out and enjoy Toronto, and its talented artists! Like Steve, you should try to spend every dollar and moment you can spare. After all, you are ultimately enriching yourself.
